So, in the meantime, for all you afficianados, may I present the very best of British aeroplanes past and past together. NB the Lightnings are flaps up:

Anyone care to identify the mark of Spitfire?

This is NOT a thread challenge.

Hi DA.

You're close with the date, but it ain't a Mk14.

Clue - it still flies.....serial number PM631

.... and I've flown all of the three Frightenings in the pic.....

Coltishall circa 1970 ish - "The Home of the Lightning".

As they said in Nuffolk " you'old buggaah you".

Hi Bri. The tail reminds me of the Vultee Valiant and I've read that they did some amazing modifications to it including a biplane version, so I was thinking a twin-engine executive version would be possible....?

The unbuilt Kinner Invader?

All assumptions above based on it being American.

Sorry, not a Vultee, nor a Kinner. You are on the right track with the executive type, though.

I keep thinking it's American. Bri didn't confirm or deny that but what other nations could be responsible? Late 1930's aircraft?

I think it's American too.

The fin seems nicked from Curtiss.

Would anyone have built an executive aircraft during WW2? Maybe it's early post-war?

Project?

G'day mate, how's the leg?

The fin seems nicked from Curtiss.
To me it looks like a Vultee Valiant that rear-ended a Cessna T-50 Bobcat!

Well I'm now stumped with this one. I agree, the fin is very Valiantish. I've searched the 1930s period books I've got and found nothing and the web is not prodcing either!

I've looked at every American radial engine I can think of and guess what?

I've found aeroplanes before by going after the engine(s).
Are we barking up the wrong tree?

Dunno about you mate, but I'm now going after non-Yank engines......

It would help if I knew the number of cylinders, but despite Photoshopping the image, I can't establish that either.
