I'm every bit as dumb mate, believe me, Wiki is your friend! I only found these facts out this evening and by tomorrow I'll probably have forgotten them

The challenge comes from one of small number of cities where learning and flying went hand in hand

Wiki is your friend!
Lately he and Mr Google have been real bastards. A number of recent challenges revealed here show no hits at all - for me.

Just made a cup of tea (bloody hard when your knuckles drag on the floor) and had me medication.

Now forget the Franks, Emperors and European cities I've never been to...is it from a well known German manufacturer that continued into WW2?

Sip.

Don't forget, that between the wars, Germany was not allowed to develop advanced aircraft so gliding and lightplanes were used to move the design process forward, not from a major manufacturer but from one of these University flying clubs

Search wiki for Akademische Fliegergruppe don't go too far down the list and stay away from where Reg lives!

There are a number of aircraft of the same year, that's where the King/Emperor's name (in German) will zero in on the challenge.

Our next King (unless he stands down) will have the same name, but not in German!

You're right mate reg lives in Berlin, next on the list is Darmstadt, that would give a list of aircraft produced by that group, several made in 1923, but only one named after Charles the Great (Karl der Grosse).

Nearly there mate, however, LM has beaten you to it!! Sorry

It is the Akaflieg Darmstadt D-8 "Karl der Grosse"

Lightning Mate has control

Looks like it mate, but no.

An Australian was in Ireland. On his way to Belfast, he stopped
at a bar and asked one of the locals, "What's the quickest way
to Belfast?" The Irishmen asked, "Are you walking or driving?"
The Australian replied, "I'm driving!" The Irishman said, "Aye,
that'd be the quickest way!"
