G'day Graeme,

I found another example of your photo in the flight Archives and again it refers to it as a wing mounting version of the Double Wasp. It goes on to explain that the engine has an extension-shaft, enclosed by a large spinner to give a very streamlined nacelle. However, I can find no mention of an airframe that uses it and I believe it may be a mock-up, possibly of one of the proposed Martin twin-engine proposals for the competition that led to the Marauder and Invader, I have seen an illustration of the Martin "Bombardment Airplane Model 179", this shows the large spinners, but had unswept wings, maybe there were other designs!

Thank you Brian, quite a novel one that!

This one is very nearly as old than the last one, but it's pretty conventional.

Thanks Stig! Excellent detective work as always. Much appreciated.

Your biplane. No idea. But I am impressed that his hat remains attached.

Cheers mate.

It's probably held down by the Coanda Effect from the top wing mate!

No, not really, just an opportune link for a clue!! The predecessor to this machine shared an exhibition hall in 1910 with Coanda's first foray into jet propulsion; at the second of what was to become a renowned international air show!

Ok....so this machine was not necessarily at the hall on display...in 1910?

Is that right? Yes, I am drinking.

G'day David!

Morning LM, G'evening Graeme,

Well, I have it as the Second International Aeronautical Exhibition in Paris in October 1910

It was another machine by the same manufacturer that was in the hall and the identity of the challenge is only the manufacturer, configuration and year!

Adited to say at work away from computer, will leave light on and monitor periodically.

That's the one LM,

Some sites list it as just the Sloan Biplane 1911, which I would have accepted, but you followed it up nicely with its full title the Sloane Concours Militair Biplane, Well done

'Artnoon LM,

Just grabbing a hurried lunch then it's back to some prototyping in the workshop, so I don't expect to get very far with your challenge this session!

I take it's just a high wing with nothing lurking in the darkness? Two-seater or more?

The engine profile looks a bit top only, is it a V-twin or fan-type three?

It looks like a two-seater and the engine appears to be a small radial.

edit to say it is a two-seater.
