Vulcan Project on brink of closure:
Club Pledgathon in Leicester Square, London.
Wednesday 4th March 11am – 4pm
Last gasp attempt by Club to SAVE THIS BRITISH ICON
Vulcan to the Sky Club Supporters will be holding a Pledgathon in Leicester Square this Wednesday to highlight the plight of the project to the public. Focal point of the display will be a 10 foot long model, clearly demonstrating how advanced the design was for an aircraft first conceived in 1947.
The whole project is built around educating the youth of today, not only about the Cold War era, but the leading edge design and technology that went into developing this aircraft, thus inspiring young engineers and scientists - something this country badly needs.
All those who can make it to show your support will be very welcome.

Great news - but it is only a temporary solution. The project needs to have long-term security and going through this anguish every 4 or 5 months is not good.

Come on chaps (& chappesses!)
Recieved a plea in the post from TVOC this morning - just chipped in my bit to help, not easy in the prevailing climate but having donated in the past I felt that would have been wasted if I did not help to see it through
Having witnessed in-service Vulcans at Waddington & Greenham common years ago it was fantastic to see '558 at Farnborough last year and I hope to again, she really is the best of British

Looking North, I am not defending or supporting Tim's views on everything but to be fair and objective quote it accurately and it does have a slightly different emphasis:
I would be inclined to say "the saga" is but the project certainly isn't.
Commendation where it is due to the great efforts of the fund raisers, well done. How long before the next deadline? I hope they can re-invent their business model and learn to harness those volunteering instead of runnning it like a private club for those in the know. God knows they would have got there much quicker and easier.
I (along with heaven-knows how many other people) think this saga is a complete joke

Agree with your last para with regard to reinventing.
As a member of the club who has been rather active in the last fortnight, thanks in part to the civil engineering sector being a tad 'slow' at the moment. I have been part of this scramble / phoning / Leicester Sq club innitiative. One comment that seems to keep coming out is the need for better communication at all levels and a requirement for a regionalisation (if that is a word) of the club to allow like minded individuals in the same area (roughly) do things together that ultimately lead to a sound and secure financial future for the aircraft. Afterall, there are 25000 (roughly) names on the club database. If these 'names' could all be members, and get full and proper member benefits from an airshow season, then some (but not all) the funding issues will be better.
I have lost count of the people who have asked, during our 'please pledge - or the project is over' (OK so I worded it better than that) pledgethon - Are you the regional coordinator? or 'If only I had known sooner' and other similar statements that just make you want to scream at the upper echelons of the project and club/trust for essentially saying very little to the masses until the begging bowl goes out.
It needs to be a 2 way street to all donors. They give you money : They all deserve accurate and timely information or it WILL bite you in the 'horse-donkey hybrid' Let us hope that the efforts of the 'foot soldiers' of the club are not in vain to the members / friends / supporters and lead to a better club/trust/supporters structure so that we do not have this same situation at the end of this 2009 display season - time will tell though.
Anyway....... current total £926,397. It's nearly there - for this part of the project.
Lets see where it all goes from here.
Checkflaps.

Well, that is an amazing effort and I for one did not think it would happen. Well done to all those who made it happen because it was very much a "close run thing" and it ain't over yet. Naturally as an aviation enthusiast I'm very pleased but I do share the view of some posters here that this might (even "might" is probably not the correct word - "will" is probably more realistic) only be delaying the inevitable grounding of the mighty Vulcan. I have to confess that I have been very selfish and have not put a penny into the fund because my spare money goes towards restoring another icon - former Great Western Railway 2-8-0 locomotive 2807, so I'm clearly not that much of an aviation enthusiast and much more of a steam locomotive enthusiast but hey, that's my choice. Congratulations again to those folks who have stepped up to the Vulcan mark.

Just under a million pledged so far.
The trust is completely skint, so sponsors Aerobytes and Judd Power have stumped up to pay the wages for the next month while pledges are called upon.
The pledge scheme is also continuing for another month as some may be more inclined to get involved now that the project is in better shape to continue.
Donations are also being accepted again now.
Touch wood, it looks like we'll have a Vulcan flying at shows around the UK again this year!
