Cuadillo,
Has it been established that the airports shown in post 676 and 689 are the same field? The runway markings are entirely different. 676 seems much closer to the coast that 689.
I'm clearly stumped.

To clarify the rules, one must 'win' the right to post a picture by being the first to correctly identify the preceeding one or by the winner declaring an 'open house'. No 'pop-up' pictures please.
Inherent in this is a responsibility for the initial poster to announce a winner, and the winner to post a pic or open the floor.
The last 2 pics posted appear to be 2 different airfields.
To minimize confusion please stick to the ground rules, post in your turn, and finish one off before we move on to another. In this case lets work on the field Caudillo posted in 676 then move on.
Thanks

Fair enough - in that case no winners yet (and whoever gets the first one also has the added bonus of getting the second I promise!)
Seacue, you're right, they do look rather different I've got to concede, although it's the result of a couple of funny angles, a man with a paintbrush and somebody shifting a few rocks..
Unfortunately this place is famous for absolutely nothing aviation related - its main claim to fame I guess is that it is home to the largest mountain in its country.. which is not indonesia

evansb- 100% Correct I'd say, especially as the photo on Google Earth is the same one as the one that's in this competition

Caudillo's challenge
It certainly looks that bri is correct but at Post#685 Caudillo stated "The people here have a very pronounced Dutch accent." I have never had the good fortunate to go to the Azores but aren't they Portuguese? Have they a Dutch accent in the Azores? I will admit this clue led me to believe the airport was in what was once known as the Dutch East Indies. The SSK suggested Horta in the Azores at post #680 but received no recognition that he was close.

I confess that I'm sceptical. I've been to Pico (the island, not the airport) and at one point I was visiting a seaside location when to my surprise an ATP took off behind me, I hadn't realised the airport was there. In other words, I was in the area between the runway and the sea, and I'm sure it didn't look like that.
Some of the earliest settlers in the Azores were Flemish, but their descendants have probably lost their Dutch accents by now.

The Dutch accent bit had me fooled too. I was thinking Dutch Antilles or the east Indies, and found a couple that might have matched on a dark night if you were looking in the opposite direction
But the pic with the wing in it, is definitely on Google Earth at Pico...think the man owes us an explanation

The ATP wing is definitly PICO. You can see the new terminal and tower clearly. The only people with Dutch accents are Dutch tourists.
The other airfield isn't Horta, Flores, Corvu or Sao Jorge, so that rules out the Azores and the idea that the fields are close to each other.

Think I may have figured this out. The second picture is a shot of Pico before the runway extension was done. It must be a fairly old shot as even before the extension, the markings and boundaries didn't look like this. Still have no idea where you're going with the Dutch accents.

Evansb - well done, quite right, so over to you!
To DW11, also quite right, I'd discovered the thread and seen a few vintage shots, so I thought my first would be a good bet, though after a bit of thought I reckoned it might be a bit better to include something more upto date.
I threw in the Dutch accent by way of a bit of gentle misdirection, in hindsight it was probably unfair given how out of the way the Azores are.
Strange as it may seem, the Azoreans, despite being paid-up Portuguese do have remarkably impenetrable Dutch accents. So much so that their Portuguese is subtitled when shown on TV on the mainland. Pico in particular has dozens of Dutch accents that vary from village to village, the variety of which I would imagine is only matched by the UK.
The Islands, now known as the Azores (a type of goshawk I think..) used to be known as the Ilhas Flamengas - the Flemish Islands, and the first meaningful settlers there were in fact the Dutch. A bit of googling has just found that the first "master" of the island was a gent by the name of Joos van Hurtere, who received the island in 1482.
Anyway, they're well worth a visit, Pico in particular with its spanking new aerodrome!
Good luck!
