I confess that I'm sceptical. I've been to Pico (the island, not the airport) and at one point I was visiting a seaside location when to my surprise an ATP took off behind me, I hadn't realised the airport was there. In other words, I was in the area between the runway and the sea, and I'm sure it didn't look like that.
Some of the earliest settlers in the Azores were Flemish, but their descendants have probably lost their Dutch accents by now.
