Oik, think I can explain the Gnat... have you seen how the Yanks are wont to paint Spitfires?

Is that Pima? On my "to do" list if they'll let me back into the country.

Here is a photo of an Vulcan B.1 taken by my father at Entebbe airport, Uganda, around the late 50s or very early 60s. Image is from a scanned 35mm slide.

Some shots from the RNZAF Air Combat Wing disbandment on 13th December 2001 at Ohakea. Very cloudy and dark that day, not so good for photography.

The Banshee is indeed over Halifax harbour. The Angus L. McDonald bridge under the wingtip. The tubes on the "Clunk" wintips are the pods for the practice rockets. It is also wearing the Mk.5 wingtip extensions. (not normally worn as they had a tendance to peel off during high G manouvers) And the "Douglas Racer" was based with the RCAF Navigatigation School in Winnipeg

I operated several flights in Novemeber of 2003, BZZ - BSR - AKT - BZZ and MME

I'll dig out some similar photos if you are interested?

Lancaster Mk. X MR s/n FM104 of No. 107 Rescue Unit based at RCAF Station Torbay (Saint John's Newfoundland). It was built by Victory Aircraft at Malton, Ontario. Malton is now the site of Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

[quote=Moose47][quote=Gainesy]A very weary looking old lady

Anybody know the story behind the non-standard fin marking (different flag)?

And anybody know the Canadian designation/name for this?

Hi

The Lancaster is from No. 404 'Buffalo' (MR) Squadron based at R.C.A.F. Station Greenwood, Nova Scotia.

The Neptune has the Canadian Red Ensign on its vertical stab. It replaced the standard R.A.F. tri-colour fin flash 1957.

The R.C.A.F. Grumman Albatross was designated CSR 111.

Cheers...Chris

The CF-100 Canuck Mk. 5 s/n 18556 is from the Weapons Practice Unit at R.C.A.F. Station Cold Lake, Alberta. Each wingtip was mounted with three 2.75 inch F.F.A.R.'s.

IIRC this outfit with the swordfish/marlin badge was based at Greenwood, do not know where the Neptune and Canso seen below were from as there is nothing on the prints to indicate this, ditto the Lanc line up, but possibly Greenwood. As for that clattery Piasecki thing...

Will scan some more later. Good fun this innit?

Hi

The Canadair CP-107 Argus Mk. 1 s/n 10719 is from 415 'Swordfish' (MP) Squadron based at Canadian Force Base Summerside, Prince Edward Island. It was scrapped in 1982 )-:

The Neptune is from No. 407 'Demon' (MR) Squadron based at R.C.A.F. Station Comox, British Columbia.

The Lancs are from No. 405 'Eagle' (MR) Squadron based at R.C.A.F. Station Greenwood, Nova Scotia.

The Consolidated Canso 'A' s/n 11042 is from No, 408 'Goose' (P) Squadron based at R.C.A.F. Station Rockcliffe (Ottawa), Ontario.

The Piasecki HUP-3 Retriever (ex 51-16623) of the Royal Canadian Navy's VU-33.

Cheers...Chris

Let me know.

Clint.
I posted a request for a pic of the Fairey Firefly Mk9 and so far no-one has replied! I'm after a pic of the Mk9 which used to fly out of HMS Gannet at Eglinton before the Gannets arrived. I have several of the earlier Mks but not this one. Can you help or redirect me.
Many thanks

Firefly

Clint, thanks. On my holidays from school in Dorset, I spent a huge amount of time in the confines of HMS Gannet where my father was serving (middle 50s before the IRA started again) especially with ATC. When offered flights in the Avenger and Dragonfly helo (I know that would never happen these days) I readily accepted.

I am not a journo but just someone who was lucky enough to have a pretty free rein around a RNAS. Also with my father serving on HMS Ocean prior Korea and visits to HMAS Albatross (I think) in Nowra Oz wher he also served, gave me a fascination with all things flying. I have albums of Grumman Avengers, Gannets and Mk5 Firelfy but no Mk 9.

Not a matter of life or death but just an small obsession!
