RAD & morno

We regularly book Garuda but the base fares are very low - a lot of fare buried in fuel surcharge - and my clients love them. Return is low but so be it.

If it's unsafe they don't go and on some days they didn't. Saying they are unsafe is like saying CX was unsafe as they would get into Kai Tak when other carriers would not.

As for commission or not we roll with what works for the client and regularly book JQ and VA. Unfortunately service fees are necessary for all carriers and are charged at the same level.

Our VA clients simply don't trust Tiger. The name and the experience scares them off.

Their call and not mine - and an observation that has been brought up by quite a few clients.

Also -jetsbest

It would be interesting who the agency contact was in the scheme of things.

GA has a good culture of staff being able to operate from Airport to Ticketing and to Sales. However the people we have direct contact with are seldom privy to the thought processes behind operational decisions.

Bottom line - my clients do not want to fly Tiger,

Best all

Surely thats unpossible, EWL?

Don't all airlines meet the IATA standards of safety?

Aren't all pilots equally safe?

What are you talking about?

Fair enough EWL, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

But if their experience is of the old Tiger before the Virgin takeover, then they may be pleasantly surprised. Yes it's still cheap, but passenger satisfaction is on the increase, on time performance and cancellation rates for last FY were apparently better than Jetstar.

And besides, these international flights, they're just Virgin dressed up as Tiger essentially anyway.

Safe

EWL - Garuda safe, well safe enough.

Yes I have flown them many times, but seriously question my sanity.

It's only the Aussie airlines canceling Bali when Ruang blows, but that's Aussie safety, I like it. Ash is a nasty thing.

Then there are the constant Runway over runs excursions that not all are seen, did ya see the 737 using a ladder yes a ladder to deplane out the rear door, in the rain!

I've seen Garuda land in Perth when no other airline could, nor even take off for that matter, but alas the Fog cleared for them 😖.

Yep 99.9% of the time you will be safe, but fark the risk in my opinion. There is a reason the EU ban was in place for so long.

Lion Air swimming in Bali, AA deadly dive. But alas it's the over runs and safety culture that joe blow don't hear about. He just want cheapest fare.

As an agent that's how you make your money so I certainly understand.

Of course all just my opinion!

I'd feel safer on Tiger any day of the week any hour of any of those days! Especially when the wx turns nasty!

Garuda. World class engineers and maintenance standards. Operation is fine all things considered. I fly them regularly.
Aussies enjoy a sound reputation based on past excellent maintenance facilities (which just aren't here anymore) and operating in moderate conditions.
Face facts, we have been left behind and are slinging shit in frustration.

Nothing is "unpossible" Defred.

It is not IATA that wields that big stick as far as I know but I think it is ICAO in conjunction with the sovereign authorities of individual countries.

IATA is more the facilitator for Airline and reseller of air services but they are not afraid to wade in with opinion.

Point is taken morno - aversion does come into play when hours have been lost some time back with very shitty passengers when flights are not arriving or departing.

I did fly Garuda in the "bad old days" as I wanted to fly on a DC10 before they disappeared and what a terrific aeroplane! There were some interesting incidents at ADL while I was there with AN when they were flying the leased A300-600s that carried their own Jose the Engineer with them but the culture change is quite evident and long standing. However as I have proved of my own attitudes shown above, old attitudes die hard. I will not even taxi with Lion, Merpati, Express Air or any of the other internals and cringe when clients have to use them.

It might be noted that with only a few cancellations, CX, SQ, MH and QR as I am told kept operating.

We aint perfect!

Best regards

I think you'll find that it is IATA EWL. Refer to the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit).

Garuda does have IOSA accreditation according to their database. I don't see Tiger there though.

Garuda

Not hijacking the thread but really...

This year alone ATR over run, 737 over run.

AirLive.net: BREAKING Garuda Indonesia #GA618 overran runway on landing at Makassar Airport, no injuries reported

Indonesian plane skids off runway on holiday island | News.com.au

But as I said before Jo public don't care, he wants the lowest fare. As was mentioned previously people still booked Air Asia after the crash, after they cancelled the Christmas Bali, etc. Shite even I flew Air Asia after but my rule is only in good weather. Yes shocking generalization.

I would rather be on a high capacity RPT aircraft and AOC that has gone through the over hearing scrutiny of CASA anyday and twice on wet season days.

No I haven't done a comparison Western airlines v Asian Airkines this year but it does seem they have had a continual bad run.

So Tiger to Bali or Virgin or J*. Which ever fare Jo finds cheaper on sky scanner or his agent sells him on!

"Muppets"......

And there's plenty more "handles" out there that are simply childish and offensive.

Hilarious.

Correct A320

Three 737s doing the lot is it? One falls over and it all goes to hell.

I have worked in a limited fleet environment and it is all happy until one falls over, particularly if you don't have a policy of protecting passengers onto other carriers under a FIM arrangement. If they have the FIM agreements in place then well and good.

I am assuming that the Indo authorities will only accept properly badged aeroplanes according to their rules, although a healthy slug of rupes or USDs will almost always make regulations temporarily go away.

The public perception of TT isn't good and they probably did much of that themselves with reality TV.

Operated perfectly it will take a long time to raise opinions.

Also from the point of view of an Agent it is cumbersome to book an Airline not living in the GDS environment so that is a further negative.

At least we can book Virgin in there but JQ remains a pain.

Yes, we are a bunch of whingers but the majority of bookings for International carriers still comes from us leaches.

Indo is a low yield run for Agents as well as Airlines. This is just opinion and input on my part.

In the long run it makes no never mind really but will be interesting to observe.

Best regards

says who ? QF spin doctors & QF staff ?

Note since ex QF guy took over running TT yields have gone up.

& if a TT(VA) 738 goes U/S, presume they'd either use a TT A320 (so it might need a tech stop for fuel or carry less pax) or even a VA painted 738. Am sure Indo authorities would allow that as a temporary replacement.

Last thing indo's want is 170+ whingeing Ozzies at DPS saying we can't get home & broke.

+ VA has lots of flights to DPS. As long as when aircraft goes U/S it's not school holidays, they can put pax on other VA services.

Gee, if you were a pax & aircraft went U/S, would you rather:-

1) wait until another aircraft found to do flight

or

2) take any option available right now, via anywhere ?

It would take most sensible pax a nanosecond to choose 2, esp after all the well mentioned cancellations @ DPS due to volcano.

They could use any of the 25 VAI operated 737s to recover.

EWL,

Instead of wasting time on this forum, spend some of your spare time researching public opinion - your assertion is incorrect and out of touch (and I wouldn't for one minute be so bold as to assume that the commission-status of TT with agents has anything to do with your opinion).

The only truth in your last post was the difficulty that small-fleet operators have in recovering from any disruption when compared to large-fleet operators. The incidence is low however and so shouldn't be a primary concern.

Agreed. 99% of punters I see get off a Tigerair flight would go back anytime.

Perhaps in years gone by that was the case EWL, but things have turned around.

Maybe you should try them one time?

All statements taken on board, however I am at the coalface and deal with public perception on a daily basis.

I think that gives me a pretty fair perspective and it doesn't matter to me if someone wants Tiger. So be it. It is a low return booking, but a booking.

The majority of the traffic we handle is longhaul legacy stuff and some of that including QF,EK,SQ and a heap of others from ports outside Australia are zero commission so payments from airlines don't come into my comments.

I do however guess early passenger dramas with Tiger do slant my opinion and apologise for my inability to reboot and get over past events.

The public perception does exist and will no doubt fade with time.

Best all
