I was referring to the people rather than the process.

the old "you missed out" nyeh nyeh nyeh nyeh nyeh, GROW UP!
this is not primary school! This is worse, this is a infantile institution known as Qantas.

Fabricate as much stories as you like, after all, Qantas is a canvas of lies woven by incompetent managers and staff like yourself.

"If you don't like it, leave."

This is an old refrain and it is simply BS because "Leaving" is not that simple when your skills are specific to your occupation and their are no other employers readily available in Australia.

In addition, way back when, TAA and Ansett had a "gentlemans agreement" that they would not poach each others employees, nor would they offer employment to someone who had left the other. I would think that someone leaving QF as a disgruntled employee would find it rather hard to get a job with VB.

QF management knows that the "Leave" option is not available and treats you accordingly.

P.S. The removal of the "service desk girls" was predictable because their superior performance and availability was an affront to management.

We should seriously organise a get together with all the pprune-ers. It would be a great night.

I agree sunfish.

Don't let the door hit you as you leave heads_down

It would be nice if this thread didn't degenerate into cabin crew slanging each other. Its a thread about Qantas and 1750 jobs being lost, yet all I can see is people complaining about the state of the cabin crew department.

Qantas is a bit bigger then this guys, can we keep it on topic.

I agree 600FT-LB, this thread is company wide.

I hear that several airport managers and at least one ramp manager have "been tapped on the shoulder".

Sorry to hear of anybody losing their job - this is not a time for anyone to cast dispersions about others.

Let us hope the right decisions are made and the result is a stronger, dynamic, united and engaged organisation!

600ft-lb & 1746,
No one is excluding any other areas of QF in posting information here.

If you have info about other retrenchments in your area then by all means post them.
The cabin crew here are simply talking about their work place just as you guys talk about yours.
This is one reason why the airline is so successful in it's industrial efforts.
Each individual area don't seem to care about other areas.

Time and again the airline uses divide and conquer to succeed

JJ, I agree with your analysis of the industrial isolation tactics and was not having a go about Cabin Crew airing their concerns.

The way the thread was heading appeared to be a descent into personal attacks presumably from within Cabin Crew ranks and I feel that tends to trivialise the impact these cuts will have on many individuals and families.

I, like most of us, hope and pray those responsible for the demise of our organisation are made accountable for their actions.

In bne all the domestic base schedulers were let go, one exe manager and a one level 5, I think. There is virtually no one left. Some were happy with the package and a few were very upset.

The redundancies I am aware of so far have been in

Flt ops
Sales
Admin
Qantas Freight
Cabin Crew admin
Airports - All ports (Ramp, Customer Service Sups)
Qantaslink

Ranging from execs to sp1/sp2 and level 9 - level 4.

They are apparently getting rid of half the Qantaslink engineers in MEL.

They all had to interview for their jobs last week and are waiting to find out.

You would hope Finance and HR are added to that list...........those two areas are the biggest waste of money by a mile.

....So everything is going to be centralised in big expensive Sydney.

The next thing is then to maximise the physical and virtual distance between senior management and coal face staff by moving as many managers and administrative staff as far as possible form working airports.

It used to be an axiom of good organisational design to make decisions as close as possible to the coal face.

Sunfish, interesting article recently about how AJ had refused to move into Geoff's old office in Sydney CBD and instead is beavering away at QCA at Mascot.....closer to the action apparently.

I'm beginning to think that he's got the right ideas and perhaps even the right methodology. A bit of water to pass under the bridge before I'd back him home as a winner but better than where we were in September last year.

Hey Ken no points for guessing where you work eh,especially when you react and use language like that?
Nothing like taking shots at other careers and then hyperventilating when someone suggest that your area is not pulling it's own weight.be careful Ken,you might burst a blood vessel if you carry on like that again.

HR has always been a funny job path and they talk about meteorology as an inexact science. It's the only career that I know that you write your own job description and it's one area that can be easily outsourced.
This is the part I liked the best from Ken Borough about the HR department
setting up the conditions you enjoy
Don't you mean the conditions you have to fight the company tooth and nail to protect?
We do need a financial department but is it being run efficiently?
I bet we all know the answer to that.

Joyce's True Colours

The little people are getting it in the neck again.Joyce either doesn't know whats going on or he is indeed a clone of Dixon.
The management status quo largely remains the same. The same incompetents staying to maintain the disengagement of the workforce.
If part of AJs mission is to improve morale he is so far way wide of the mark.Retrenching the Service Desk Girls is unbelievably stupid
