is it true that the people manning the BOS desk go out there during their annual leave and work for free?

BOS Desk

No one I know does it for free....maybe I know the wrong people!Sounds like a great rumour though, and after all, this IS a rumour network....

On another front, its gone all quiet again on the notification front. Does anyone else have the same sense of foreboding that I get...like something BIG is about to be announced(and not good)?

Anyone have any inside info?

Most of the guys who work on the BOS desk do it because they want the jacket or they don't like flying anymore.

Yay lets fire people from Qantaslink.... after all they only make 10x more per person then the rest of the Q group.

However on a more 'real' note: QLink Mel seem to have slowed down a bit over the past 6 months, and with the removal of several acft from the region I can see why they may perceive the need to remove engineers.. (not in any way saying i agree). Possibly a better option would have been to expand the operation and take on some of the dead and dying mainline routes, say Mel Adl, or Mel Hobart?

The little people are getting it in the neck again.Joyce either doesn't know whats going on or he is indeed a clone of Dixon.
The management status quo largely remains the same. The same incompetents staying to maintain the disengagement of the workforce.
If part of AJs mission is to improve morale he is so far way wide of the mark.Retrenching the Service Desk Girls is unbelievably stupid.

**To be fair, from the redundancies I know of it seems to be across the board and at every level, incl execs.

**Expect the next round of redundancies next week.

**Expect an announcement from AJ in the next couple of weeks about more jobs cuts. This is above the 1750 already mentioned and being rolled out now.

does anyone know what has happened to OPS on QCC3... I believe the broom really went through there.
What about that service delivery area! did anyone get delivered ouot of the door there?
I cannot believe that QF got rid of the Service desk girls! that will be the biggest mistake they have made.

make no mistake the worst of this is far from over.....

The swine flu panic is causing massive cash flow problems with cancelled tickets and bookings. Whole flights are being cancelled that were booked by big japanese groups.

This is getting very very serious now.

Its not just management that is at risk here

yes looks like the panic has really set in over the swine flu.

Millions of people a year die from normal influenza! why the panic! the media are really beating the stick over this one!

Yes once flights and routes are "re examined " that means everyone in this company is going to feel the pinch! faaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrkkkkk

I saw this coming weeks ago but members dissed me as medicated and the whole swine flu thing was a media hype,

hype or not, people do not want to spend money when they perceive a threat or a risk. This is common sense whether you think it is stupidity or not, you can always follow margaret jackson legacy and say customers have a mental issue for not traveling since even if you are infected, it is only a mild case.

Hawaii has seen huge falls in tourism , their biggest market: Japan has stopped going there for fear of H1N1

Now with travel insurance companies openly saying they will not cover any swine flu pandemic related loss or recovery, it does affect the whole industry.

but not to worry, AJ just boasts of the huge 3 billion dollars cash reserve, there's so much money there that I am sure the company can afford to be in the red for months and months and still not feel a drip of fuss.

Pegasus, do you think that redundnacies will be inevitable for cabin crew? I think this swine flu issue will become very big over the next couple of weeks, and beyond. Everyone is talking about annoucements of more redundancies next week. Will this directly affect cabin crew?

Following on from management redundancies, which on the CC website said will "be a difficult time",

In the next paragraph from LG dated yesterday it states "The Qantas Group has also announced a review of our capacity, and this too will have implications for our business. The review will be concluded shortly and I will advise you as soon as possible on the necessary changes to our work arrangements".

This, from Cabin Crew Management does not sound promising. I suggest all CC to log on and read the full letter from her although there isn't much more to it.

Re Swine Flu, I heard it was JetStar who were really suffering, in particular the Japan services. I don't think QF can reduce services to Japan much more, it's already pretty much skeleton flights compared to what it was years ago.

even the union is suddenly all quiet about job security, all they could talk about at this time was just bits and pieces about crockery and air conditioning.

not a good sign.

air doris is right Japan could be nuked out of existance and it would make diddly squat to Qantas's performace there are almost no flights left!

Just face it millions and millions of us are gonna get this media hyped Swine Flu! So be it, its even better than the normal cold. I want to get it asap then I can have some minor form of immunity if there is a future deadlier version. If you somehow get it please PM me then let's meet up and cough all over me please! ^^;

Just because there is a second round of media hype I still believe this is a non event! Even if 4 million of us get it so be it FFS, it is a normal influenza that we get every year!

angle of attack not sure how you could have such a cavalier attitude towards your well being, majority of people are more concern about their health, and want to be around for a long time.

you are making self serving statement just so your particular industry can thrive, but selfishness aside, no one wants to see tourism take such a hit but it is not for you to decide, it is the customers who ultimately decide what they want to do. And if they do not want to travel, that is their right and u need to respect that and not call them mental like margaret jackson.

I have personally heard of many people who have cancelled travel plans. Some were only planning to travel domestically. A lot of people don't want to go anywhere near the airport. It may seem silly to us as crew/airport employees that people are behaving this way, however this is how the general public are perceiving the situation. I think all flights will be affected, not only flights to the US or Japan etc. I think this swine flu pandemic will have a big impact on domestic travel too.

you are making self serving statement
What? That I want to get Swine Flu? Yes it is very self serving!

not sure how you could have such a cavalier attitude towards your well being,
Umm, The stastics show this Swine Flu has a LESS deadly rate than the seasonal influenza, that is not cavalier.

And if they do not want to travel, that is their right and u need to respect that
I never said people should keep travelling I just said bring me some swine flu and let me get it! People will cancel thats fine by me!

As I said again, bring it on, Swine flu sufferers I want you to cough on me!
I wish people would use common sense rather than listen to the news media, if you talk to any professional this particular strain is a non event. sheez!

by the pricking of my thumb
something wicked this way comes

yes most reliable sources have cited that something not pleasant will be coming to cabin crew...you just have to brace yourselves.

and no the union is completely powerless and cannot do a didley squart about this, nor are they in a position, and frankly, they might just want to stay out of it, much to the disappointment of many paying members who will be affected.
