Cart Elevators post resonates with me. I had a huge dose of the "excellence" stuff about fifteen years ago, delivered in very expensive surroundings. It is almost always in my opinion a panacea for ineffective management - a gimmick which is supposed to make everything go right.

Like most people here, if you do not like what others have to say, or feel your opinion matters more than others you deemed uneducated, then

simply build a virtual bridge and cross it.

trust me it works wonders.

It can be said Qantas crews are the nastiest to their own kind, somehow they have been too long in the job to remember "respect" for their own kind. Last checked the training manual did say respect for your own kind with no conditions attached.

heads_down....

The problem is that your posts appear to be a combination of muddled, incoherent, illogical, confused, inarticulate, unintelli gible dyslexia.....

It's not that we are protecting the management in any way, shape or form....

Nor is anyone being nasty or vindictive or showing any lack of respect....

It's your posts that are the problem....it's almost embarrassing to read them!

Again I go back to what I have said before, if you deemed every single post and responses on the entire Prune forum since inception are most logical except for mine, than really,

just move on and cross the bridge.

If, like most, you want a variety of opinions and all sorts of views with an open mind, whether we personally deemed it as unintelligent or useless regardless of whether it makes sense to a minority few or not, then you are not to judge other people's post as if everyone agrees with what you think.

Most people use Prune as a quick way to vent opinion and views, if you are looking for a full fledged Dan Brown novel, with a beginning, body and conclusion like a thesis at the University than I suggest you read a novel.

The truth is, postings here do not have to make sense to you. You seemed to misunderstood opinions and posts here are for a variety of people, you may not agree with what I have to say but it is still my right to talk about it, just as much as it is yours regardless of whether it follows a logical order or not, according to you.

Opinions and views expressed here do not have to follow your self imposed criteria. you simply do not have to read it if you do not find it exciting.

One just need to ask why in fact, I am not the only member here who have a very low opinion of Qantas management. The answer lies in the culture of the company, the way they do things, the way they treat one another, in fact even the Mod concedes that Qantas is the only airlines where the crew fight amongst each other in a public forum all the time, lacking any respect for each other opinions. Your eagerness and enthusiasm to so readily correct another member's semantics shows how badly you must have had it in your job where you have no say in anything and not allowed to show your enthusiasm and academic skills or use it to full potential at work. Perhaps you can apply for a position at Qantas cabin crew news and perhaps use your highly sought after skills in Qantas editorial newsies.

Again, if I need a professor in academics, I will seek a real academic professional, not some half-ass self proclaimed academic expert who really is a food server that lurks in these forum. Food servers like yourself should just stick to your expertise and talk about the food you serve and not other people's sense of logic in posting their views on a forum.

oh, boy

Heads down says "Food servers like yourself should just stick to your expertise and talk about the food you serve and not other people's sense of logic in posting their views on a forum".

whatever your medication is - dont drive, dont drink, dont talk and dont write ...... and leave senior crews alone. WE built this company and its reputaton until.................

Cart elevator., QF is a training organisation therefor all the "Qantanimo" brain washing brings financial/tax benefits for QF.

Just tried to read a few of Heads_down's posts.
Painful!

Heads, it's not the content of your posts, rather, the delivery.

and you think LG's delivery of "excellence" is something to write home about? (honestly)

Not only the delivery of "excellence" is nothing to write home about, so are the content which is utter rubbish at best.

Just think of the mediocre standards Qantas as a company delivers, then it is not hard to understand why their staff are just as mediocre as their incompetent managers, don't forget we learned from the best, we learned from our team managers.

Good Gawd, why are they paid in excess of 90,000 a year for such incompetence?
For every team manager sacked, 2 QCCA jobs can be saved.

Well Engineering took a hit today ...

Heard a number of people from Lean Sigma got the chop.

TS was also hit today with a number of departments loosing all of their "contractors", which were mainly engineers ... and get this, it was explained that these engineering positions are a part of the 500 management/executive positions that were announced to go . How engineers and even a very junior engineer is classed in this bucket is beyond me. Mean while no real management positions have gone from those departments and remaining staff were told to brace for the effect of the 1450(?) general staff positions that have been slotted to go. That was one sneaky trick pulled by the "big guys" . I realise that they were "contractors" but AJ did tell the public/staff that 500 management positions had to go ... maybe the message got mixed up down the chain.

Forty Two days have elapsed since the announcement of QF's plan to cut 1750 positions.

Sixteen Pprune pages and 317 posts of mostly speculation about cuts, with a few nuggets about the low hanging fruit - contractors, being told to pack their bags.

This is not good. The reason it is not good is because it indicates, at best, bad management, at worst, it is a form of workplace bullying.

When you cut workforce size, you either do it "quick and dirty" or "slow and clean". The alternative "slow and dirty" maximises the stress on staff.

By "quick and dirty", I mean 1750 people at once get the "Don't come Monday" notice. You always do it on a Friday to give everyone a few days rest. You pay all entitlements absolutely and in my opinion you should also add a bonus on top of that for the associated trauma.

The following Monday morning, you come out with the inspirational message to staff about how those left behind will cope and that there are no more cuts planned and today is a new beginning.

"Slow and clean" on the other hand, involves open consultation with all staff about where the company is going and the statement that not all employees will want, or be allowed, to continue the journey. You then open up negotiations, trot out your VR plan, organise your retraining and job finding scheme, organise send off parties on a weekly basis etc. etc.

The middle way, "Slow and dirty" involves no consultation, deliberate secrecy, the generation of rumours, staccato removal of people with no apparent rhyme or reason over many many weeks. No one is "safe" it is a never ending process.

Yet this "slow and dirty" process seems to be what Qantas has used in the past and is continuing to use which does not in my opinion, bode well for the company. We saw it in the treatment of the poor bloody Melbourne maintenance engineers, today perhaps their work would be outsourced, tomorrow perhaps not. Let them stew. They don't matter. The "Legacy Airline" quote was also a deliberate passive aggressive threat to everyone who worked at mainline - it's a form of workplace bullying.

It seems to me that nothing has changed, unless I am mistaken, and Qantas will continue to treat it's staff with the utter contempt that has become its hallmark, to the detriment of staff, shareholders and the travelling public.

P.S.

Cart Elevators post is a perfect example of the confusion and despair people feel under such circumstances, and I assure you it is not good for business:

Apparently we have to shed about 1700 jobs. I get that, but at the same time as one of the last Qantas crew to be hired I could be staring down the barrel of redundancy.Yet I was recently forced to attend "Qantanimo" and do the exceptional thing.T..................................................... .
............................................................ ..........................
............................................................ ............................
I reckon they spend more on just one of this stupid day than it takes to keep 20 of me in a job.

So they can afford all of this but they have to sack 1700 staff because of costs? I could really understand them doing things like this in good times, but now?
It really makes no sense and makes me so angry at the company. ............................................................ ........................
............................................................ ........................
............................................................ ........................

Some old woman was carrying on about how the place was $10 million to build and how everything was "wonderful". Great, how many jobs could have been saved with that 10 million dollars? Do the idiots that run exceptional have a direct line to reality? ............................................................
............................................................ ..................................
............................................................ .................................
But they can afford to keep doing this crap at the expense of peoples livelihoods. It makes me sick. .....................................................
............................................................ .................................
.................................................... We are disposable.

No forward bookings

I wonder why? For the past few years they have treated the "customers" with contempt. Crappy aeroplanes and crappy IFE so the pax have gone elsewhere. The prices aren't that flash for a crappy product compared to the others at the moment either. So what do they do? They announce a $160 surcharge for the exit rows. In this market! Are they dumb or what?

The 500 middle level managers are still sweating!

If individuals can see the new financial year in, they might be safe.

The identification process of those positions set for redundancy will continue thru June.
