Good luck to you all that have attended stage 3 and are checking them emails! Nervy time but I hope you get through!

Kopf 14th June 2019 12:48

I feel they should be more transparent about timeframes online.
The post Stage 2 email says "You have passed the minimum requirements from the first two stages of the selection process. We will now be assessing your results and invitations to attend the next stage will be sent to those candidates who are closest to meeting our requirements. We have received an overwhelming level of applications and therefore it may take up to six months before you hear from us."

6 months is an awfully long time, as is the fact it seems like it would be well into 2020 by the time you start if you're applying now. A lot can change in that time and its really isn't an ideal situation for a candidate. I'd have applied much earlier had I known this to be the case but thought I could wait until I actually had the time to spare for it.

The Many Tentacles 15th June 2019 10:50

So essentially what they're saying is that you've met the minimum requirements but you might not have made the minimum requirements still.

Hey guys,

Thanks to all those who have posted about stage 3 day and what to expect... I have mine coming up on the 3rd of July....anyone else doing stage 3 on that day too?

Also, does anyone know if the knowledge test is MCQs or essays?
Thanks

Good luck! Make sure to get plenty of rest the night before and be yourself. There are no essays to write on the day haha.

I'm assuming those who've completed their S3 still haven't heard anything either good or bad news?

Still nothing from me, which is fine as it's only day 12 since my assessment. Looking like it really may well be the 30 days they say it would to hear back...!

Nothing yet here either, sat mine last Monday. I'm keeping my mind off it, either i'll be offered a place or I wont, it's out of my hands at this stage.

It's like waiting for water to boil or phone to ring.... Try to concentrate on other things. As Matt said: it's out of our hands now. Relax, think about summer vacay or whatever you have going on in the next month. The e-mail will come, but I honestly don't expect it before July (it's been a week for me since S3)
Good luck to all waiting! :)

Gingers Have Souls 19th June 2019 14:01

Got all excited as I had an email from NATS after completing stage 3..

Turns out it’s just a feedback survey!

Just got an email from NATS, had a mini heart attack as I opened it. It's a feedback form for the assessment day -_- damn it! Haha, back to waiting

Just took the words out of my mouth haha, I'm trying my best to keep myself distracted and then I get an email like that! Well hopefully it means they're near the end of assessing the 4 group's from June if they're requesting feedback.

Buddy can you clean up your Inbox, it's impossible to reply to your message :)

Once again: good luck to everyone waiting! The day is coming closer ;)

OH_OBS 23rd June 2019 13:41

Hey guys,
Did you also notice in the Candidates Pre-Learning booklet that the Manchester Area Control Centre (MACC) does not appear on the list of control centres operated in Prestwick?
The relevant NATS webpage still mentions it: http://www.nats.aero/about-us/what-w...ntrol-centres/ So did the earlier version of the Candidates Pre-Learning booklet. As for the interview and the knowledge test, I think it’s safe to stick to the latest version of the booklet. But it would be interesting to find out if MACC has been merged with the Scottish Area Control Centre (ScACC). Does anybody know about it?

I believe that Prestwick operates the area down to around Birmingham, which would include MACC.

Sure, but this doesn’t answer OH_OBS’s question, as they are already aware that MACC is (or was?) operating from Prestwick. The question is whether MACC has been subsumed under ScACC or is still a separate entity?

The reason for the confusion is the fact that the new pre-learning booklet simply does not mention MACC, whereas the previous booklet did. I noticed exactly the same thing and wasn’t sure what to conclude, but in the description of ScACC it now mentions North of England etc. which previously fell under MACC, so I suspect it wasn’t an accidental omission.

mike current 25th June 2019 10:09

MACC no longer exists as a "physical" unit. The ex MACC sectors are now based at Prestwick centre and the RT callsign is Scottish control. Whether the ex MACC sectors are managed within Prestwick as a separate entity or not, I don't know and I don't think that level of knowledge would be expected from a candidate for a trainee place.

Actually they say on the first page that maybe the info is potentially not up to date but that every candidate should focus on what is written there. So try not to distract yourself and follow the guidelines. I guess that would make a good first impression :)

Gisby 28th June 2019 09:46

Anyone else on the October Jerez course? Is there a WhatsApp group going?

taybz 30th June 2019 19:40

Has anyone got any tips on learning the last section on the pre-learning document?
I've learnt everything else but struggling to get the last section to stick :(

Trevor Hannant 30th June 2019 20:05

How long have you got to learn it?

taybz 30th June 2019 21:53

I've got a couple of days to get it to stick.... been trying out the major system to memorise but that's not really helped

If the new booklet is like the old I am presuming you are talking about the aircraft info section? If not just ignore what I'm waffling on about!

First off I wouldn't worry too much about recalling every little piece of info about the aircraft, especially at this stage in the process. During my stage 3 (admittedly the older process) I didn't have to recall any actual aircraft info, but a basic understanding of the main manufacturer models helped very slightly. However, competent knowledge of the other information in the booklet was extremely useful.

That being said I didn't know this before hand so revised the final few pages by grouping aircraft into flight levels and cruising speeds which helped. I made a set of very basic graphs for FLs (aircraft on the x-axis and FL on the y-axis), on this I could add basic other info too and as I'm a very visual learner I became able to recall the image in my head when needed.

Capacity numbers are so variable in the real world, so long as you have an idea of the difference between the smaller narrow body aircraft (e.g. B737's/A320s...) and larger wide body (e.g. B777s/A380...) this may come in useful.

As for routes and companies I honestly didn't worry too much, again just knowing that the European carriers are likely to use smaller aircraft and the international carriers larger may be useful but I'd be amazed if any of this information turns into a deal breaker so long as you're showing the right attributes in other areas.

Anyway best of luck with the day and maybe we'll cross paths in the future!
TC

Thank you Topcat47... although the new one isn't as complicated as the old one... I need to know aircraft type, cruising level, speed, and destinations, thankfully they have simplified this section a little.
I like the graph idea I will try this, It may help with recall :)
it's good to know they don't focus too much on this last section, takes the stress out of it a little
Thanks, hope our paths do cross :)

I also did the old test and grouped them together in a table and learnt the numbers in a sort of code going down and across looking for patterns. What helped me progress from that though was knowing what each aircraft looked like. I don’t know why but it worked hahaha.

Anyone here in Jerez? What’s the aircraft recognition section on the basic like out there? The one we did was 50 planes and a lot to take in but that’s the basic course I suppose!

MattPudzilla 1st July 2019 14:36

Has anyone received any news yet from the new Stage 3's? Good or bad...

I was in the second group on 10th June, so approaching the 30 days now.

Still nothing from me also. I was in the first group in June.

The only correspondence I’ve received is the survey email.

MattPudzilla 1st July 2019 14:47

Well at least I'm not the only one!

Did they give you any info on how you would be notified?

The last system was a call for yes and just an email for no.

i honestly can’t recall accurately. They just said you’ll hear from us in 30 days.

They did ask me and the rest of the group to write our email address on a document at the very beginning of the day. The only way they’ll get hold of my phone number is by checking the CV I attached all the way at the very start of the process.

So with that in mind I think it will be an email. Would be ideal to hear soon tbh.

Well, If your Stage 3 was before mine, that means we'll both know for sure by the 10th, so 9 days... :S

When did you sit yours?

Make sure to update us if you hear anything!

Ah right, so you should be finding out in the next couple of days?

Yeah I suppose so! It will be what it will be, you gonna try again if you don't get through this time?

Good luck to all waiting to hear back from Stage 3!

I have mine coming up on the 24th July, so three weeks today! Anyone else sitting theirs on the same day?

Good luck to all who have their stage 3 coming up and to those who are waiting to hear back from the assessment day
