Cabin crew recruitment with local people is starting at ALC.

Jet2 are also leasing a Titan airways 757 to be based at Manchester! It will operate with full jet2 crew and Titan flight deck pretty much same as strategic last summer!!!

I read elsewhere that Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Liverpool and London Southend were all looking to become Jet2's ninth UK base and that the opening of an Alicante base may be a bit of a set back for them. However I suspect that those airports would be most likely involved with Jet2 as destinations for Alicante aircraft.

My question reads quite simple and asks if there could be a possibility of Jet2 using the ALC base to open routes to SE England i.e: LGW/LTN/STN/NWI/SEN seeing as it's currently a market in which they do not operate.

You could probably add a few more airports to that list, but in reality how many were Jet2.com considering? LPL? BHX?

Will still be interested to see their motivation for opening a base at ALC as I think what has been posted elsewhere is more plausible at the moment.

This ruling could bankrupt an otherwise profitable airline within a single summer season.

Perhaps thats another reason why - to have an aircraft not totally utilised in that part of the world allows them to operate 'rescue' flights without huge delays ?? Send an ALC (can also cover MJV, AGP, VLC, PMI etc ) based a/c to UK with pax and keep next UK rotation on time ? Thus only delaying one set of pax not two ? Just a thought.......builds more flexibility into the programme.

TOM100 and artiefufkin, exactly. That is what I've seen posted up elsewhere and it seems most plausible.

Afterall, if this was to be some deft strategic move then surely they wouldn't have made this public knowledge yet?

As well as the four 737-800 due before summer 2013 Jet2 are to aquire another three 737-300's. The leased A320 based at East Midlands will be leased from Hamburg Airways.

The aircraft was still reported as at Lasham on the 8th January.

There has been no report of it's departure since.

HK A320 at East Midlands Apt : its just a rumour , as far as i know .

There are currently 4 733 aircraft in DY's fleet with winglets they are LN-KKX, LN-KHA, LN-KHB and LN-KHC. Last I heard was that these 4 aircraft will be the last 4 733's to be retired from the fleet with a exit from service date sometime during the early part of the W13 season. It is possible that these aircraft therefore could be sold to LS to enter service with LS in early S14.
I have been looking at the CAA aircraft database and have found 3 uk registered 733's that have in the last two weeks had there status updated and are now showing as being in the process of having there ownership changed. The aircraft are:

G-TOYJ - Ex BMI Baby. Status updated to ownership in the process of changing on 3rd January. Aircraft 16 yrs 5 mths old.

G-THOP - Ex Thomson Airways. Status updated to ownership in the process of changing on 13th January. Aircraft 14 yrs 11 mths old.

G-TOYM - Ex BMI Baby. Status updated to ownership in the process of changing on 3rd January. Aircraft 14 yrs 7 mths old.

All 3 aircraft are currently stored at Lasham. Wonder if these are the 3 733's due to join the fleet.
That is always a possibility. However I think 2 of the aircraft will be added to facilitate the new ALC base.

Below is a list of 8 738's that are currently shown as being in storage at european airports and awaiting new operator.

The Norwegian 733s are staying for the moment. They re needed for the small airfield
northern routes that an 800 is just too big for. Rumour is these will be replaced end of 15 by the neos entering service.

The second B738 (from ALC Leasing) is D-AXLK according to planespotters.net.

Just thought I would point it out if anyone else noticed the duplication.

This is an account of how Jet2 can treat its customers. My mother and father are just back from Tenerife, while there, they met an older couple (he 82years, her 77) from Belfast. The couple were due to fly back to Belfast with Jet2 on Friday at 1335 but tragically the man suffered a heart-attack at approx 11.30 on Thursday night. The couple were staying in Playa de Americas and the man was transfered to intensive care in Santa Cruz early on Friday morning. My mother and father went with his wife to the hospital but unfortunately the gentleman was pronounced clinically dead shortly after. There was very little the poor gentlemans wife could do, so they decided it was best that she should return home as soon as possible. As it was not possible for his wife to get her original Jet2 flight, my father tried to cancel these and get her on the TCX flight with them the following day ( Saturday ). My father phoned Jet2 at approx 10 am on Friday and explained the situation and asked that the couples flights be cancelled in order to receive a refund. He was told that customers must contact Jet2 a minimum of 4 hours before departure to cancel and that these were the rules. After again explaining the situation, he was again told that these were THE RULES of Jet2. He asked to speak to a supervisor who again trotted out the Jet2 rules policy. My father then booked the lady onto his Saturday TCX flight with extra 30 kilo baggage allowance. Realizing when they got to TFS that because the lady was taking her deceased husbands luggage home as well and would be over the 30kg, my father went to see the TCX rep. The rep went with them to check-in and when the luggage came up as overweight waived it through without a word said. When they all boarded the plane, my father explained the situation to a member of cabin crew who brought the lady a pillow, blanket and cup of tea. All the TCX staff showed compassion and sensitivity throughout whereas Jet2 behaved like a shower of :mad:.

Well I think that MAG may be wanting them at Stansted so who knows what will happen?

Jet2 were contacted 25 mins too late to qualify, luckly it was'nt the wife of the deceased herself who phoned. Having travel insurance is'nt the point, it was their crap attitude ( a bit like yours! ) that is the point being made. Perhaps when something similar happens to you, you might understand.

Whilst that is a tragic story, I completely agree with the view that this is what travel insurance is for. When people are happy to book a cheap flight you accept the terms and conditions and all airlines strongly reccomendaions you take out travel insurance to cover events like this.

I cannot comment on the 'rude' staff with the 'crap attitude' but all calls are recorded and by all means pass it on that it would be investigated if a complaint was made. Staff are never intentionally rude, the full conversation will be on record. However rules are rules, and if one exception is made then why the hell would anyone ever stick to the rules again?

If there was such an issue, I would strongly suggest you complain by the official methods and not on here so something would be done about it. However Zag23, you mentioned the crap attitude of the staff, you haven't exactly set a good example on attitude they way you responded to flybar who was giving a perfectly valid answer to your post. If thats the attitude and tone the Jet2 staff wwre faced with them I'm really not surprised they were shirty. I fully understand that it can be frustrating, and yes before you have a pop at me for being insensitive, I have been in a very similar situation myself and yes we dealt with it like adults as the marvellous Thomas Cook were just as helpful as a chocolate teapot.

Seems strange that both of you who are defending Jet2 (" Yorkshires Airline ") are from............Yorkshire. Someone in authority at Jet2 could have done something but they decided not to.:ugh: Yes, rules are there but TCX have rules on overweight baggage but they were swerved at TFS. Was going to use jet2 to Alicante later in the year but they will not be getting any more of my business.If you had read my post properly you would know that I did not deal with jet2 on this matter.:= As for flybar..........
