The last two routes (AMS & BHD) have been axed today also as of the end of October.

Flybe has abandoned DSA entirely.

Ball drops.

I've seen no promotion since they announced they were closing the base, and the q400 timings were crap. Back to Leeds and Manchester for me then.

there seems there are lot of changes going on. how did Cardiff survive all the cuts? was a deal done? what happened to Doncaster, it seemed some routes were saved then lost? are there more rumoured changes ie increases anywhere? when do the jets actually go? are all the q400s staying?=left
Remember earlier cuts were probably executed by the old regime. The new one is now starting to look at things with a new broom.

Yeah great deal as they closed the base!
Maybe the routes that will be left are profitable, especially on the Q400!

CWL had quite a mix of routes, mainly domestic (EDI/GLA/BHD/DUB/ORK/JER) and Italy (VCE/VRN/MXP/FCO) with CDG and FAO thrown in to the mix.
FAO was up to 4 or 5 weekly at it's peak, even with FR on the route, and there was talk that FCO, VCE and VRN were doing well, but all ideal for the E-jet, not so on the Q400 even though it has been done elsewhere.
Under project Blackbird, it's likely the Welsh Government decided what routes it wanted to increase the route profile and connectivity from CWL. Remove the E-jets and you're left with the domestic routes. EDI/BHD/DUB/CDG have always done well from CWL and have gradually increased since BE returned to the airport under Blackbird. I wouldn't be surprised though if another deal has been done by the Airport to keep the routes, as the frequencies have been increased. Loganair has come in on CWL-GLA as BE dropped it.

BHX

Anyone from Flybe clarify what is happening at BHX.

We know the press articles clearly mention the focus on Manchester and Heathrow and gradually the axe has fallen on Doncaster and Cardiff and a couple of Manchester routes (TLS & MXP).

However today confusion reigns at the BHX winter schedule with Milan MXP, Berlin TXL. Lyon, Hamburg and Hanover removed from sale for winter except Belin Milan and Lyon are showing again from late February.

Rumours suggested some reductions but with 4 weeks to go to the winter schedule this seems a very late change and then to reinstate some of routes which are hardly seasonal at BHX.

Is it an IT glitch or they are really going seasonable?

I think the removal of the EMB195 from service is driving a lot of this. The loads on a destination like Milan would suggest profits are there to be made but maybe not with the Q400. Coupled with the clearly stated focus on feeding VS Longhaul flights I would guess non core bases will see reductions.

Diary the 15th Oct....

The focus as well as being a feeder will be on profitable routes. Otherwise if they were just going to feed Virgin there would be no need for a base at say Birmingham or Southampton or Exeter.

Will Flybe be adding any new aircraft to their fleet going forward or will they just stick with the Q400's & E175's?

Judging by the cull at many airports incl BHX they won`t need anywhere near the aircraft they have at present even afterthe EMB-195 have gone

It's clear emphasis is to feed VIR at LHR, LGW and MAN.

No Flybe dropped Gatwick in favour of Heathrow when slots became available on loan

With Easy starting EDI & GLA it wouldn't surprise me if they also pick TXL and MXP, possibly others at a later date. I remember when Maersk filled a 737 on those routes and did well. How times have changed.

Won't this limit their route destinations going forward. With only a few jets in service this really limits their scope going further a field in Europe. Are they going to concentrate on flying to closer destinations in UK, France, Netherlands & Ireland?

I'd imagine that is what there plan is. Too concentrate their route network so it suits the Q400 with routes up to a max of 90 minutes flying time and mostly the main UK and near Europe destinations like Scotland to the rest of the UK and as well Paris and Amsterdam and Dusseldorf

Not accurate. Flybe sold their LGW slots to easyJet several years ago, and stopped flying JER/GCI/BHD/ABZ/INV-LGW at the time. The move to obtain remedy slots at LHR was much later and not connected to their previous exit from LGW.
