Flybe-9

MAN-LUX now Bookable for Winter 2017/18

BAladdy 15th Sep 2017 03:47

Does anyone know when flight operated by T3 will bee available to book through BE's website?... Just had a look to see if they had been released yet and all that is showing is T3's ABZ-LBA-SOU services and these are showing as sold out.

Trev4521 15th Sep 2017 17:17

Has the Flybe Ema-Sou finished altogether?

TartinTon 16th Sep 2017 12:22

Unless they decide the jet is needed at SOU next summer then yes. It wasn't a real route just a positioning sector that they decided to sell.

I recall reading that this would be in place at end of October

Somewhat wide of the mark. The EMA aircraft (and it was a Q400, not a jet) was BHD-based and was specifically positioned with crews ex BHD to fly the EMA-SOU. If they needed to position the aircraft to SOU, they'd simply have added an extra BHD-SOU schedule. Same for EXT-SOU - the Exeter aircraft could easily have operated an EXT-RNS W pattern into SOU if needed there.

As it was, EXT-RNS was shifted to Sundays which nearly killed it, and the whole concept of the SOU weekend hub was (looking at the CAA stats) a total disaster with EXT-SOU and EMA-SOU running at 20% load factors. It was a commercial effort to do something new but didn't work out.

The only other thing running at those kind of load factors in the network is apparently the Eastern E170 into Shetland which is sounding like a miscalculation on a grand scale.

Flybe also nightstopped a Q400 in NCL on Saturdays, having operated NQY - NCL. I thought it was so they could pick up the cruise traffic from Southampton on Sunday mornings. Whatever, it must have been expensive with no NCL base and certainly didn't help the Newquay route with a 2030 departure when people leave their accommodation at midday.

The Eastern flights for Winter 2017 onwards are now bookable on flybe's website. These are the original T3 flights to operate as a Franchise, this is in addition to the JV on the Scottish Islands.

It was GLA based crews not BHD, worked out as a 3 day trip for us.:)

Thought it was canx now?

EMA - SOU is definitely cancelled for summer 2018 along with EXT, LYS and BIQ. There are a number of other ex - SOU routes currently under review, decisions to be made on these shortly.

Loganair 'claim first blood' on N.Isles routes

Not particularly good figures for either, but especially not for Flybe.

Flybe too charter more aircraft

In a press event with Reuters the new boss says Flybe will be chartering more aircraft cos of the monarch going bust. Says this will be seen at start of 2018 season. So are they bringing in more planes for charter flights or the 195/175 going to be used more for charters.

Mr A Tis 13th Oct 2017 08:44

Well done Flybe for operating MAN-LYS-MAN (on time) last Tuesday, when the French ATC were on strike. It was one of the few flights operating out of Lyon that day. More surprisingly though, it wasn't full.

If we're reading the same fluffy article on Reuters:

Ourmieres-Widener said Flybe was looking at chartering additional aircraft this winter in light of the Monarch collapse, but that any major capacity changes would be seen more next summer.

“Airlines publish their network one year in advance, so your flexibility during one season is not so big,” she said.

They've already obtained some new charters for summer next year, for example Southampton to Greece, but they're not because of Monarch. It just looks like they're winning more contracts. I don't believe Flybe have a plan to add more aircraft - their fleet is getting smaller.

Flightrider 13th Oct 2017 10:22

Might be better of making proper use of the E170 aircraft they already have on lease if the article further up this thread is right. Statements sound like a right load of puff.

stewyb 13th Oct 2017 10:23

Flybe need to be be very careful as they had their fingers burnt only recently with over capacity and not sticking to their core business model. SOU has already confirmed two new Flybe charters for next summer with Thomson (Menorca) and Fly LoLo (Skiathos) using existing Flybe frames although the press release does state additional aircraft will be sourced

mikkie4 13th Oct 2017 11:33

looking at the FLYBE/STOBART time table its looking like an extra E195 might be needed at SOUTHEND for next year

BOHEuropean 13th Oct 2017 11:48

Depending on how the contract is structured, surely charters such as those offer a guaranteed profit and thus presumably actually a smart use of the E195s?

However, the schedules don't sim to fit on Saturday, for example the based E195 aircraft flies the scheduled routes to Faro and Malaga:

BE1771 SOU-FAO E195 08:40-11:15
BE1772 FAO-SOU E195 12:05-14:40
BE1677 SOU-AGP E195 15:20-18:55
BE1678 AGP-SOU E195 19:50-21:30

Then the Thomson charter to Mahon flies at the same times, is this on the Q400?

BE SOU-MAH E195 16:00-19:45
BE MAH-SOU E195 20:25-22:30

TartinTon 13th Oct 2017 12:03

The block times would suggest that the SOU-MAH is on the Q400
