Didn't BA fly LGW-MAN-ISB using 747's at one time? What happened to that route?

Well it got axed obviously :-)

It got moved from LGW to LHR sometime around 1998 if I remember and it went from LHR direct to ISB.

The route was dropped around 2002 after continued security problems.

On warm summer evenings PIA'S 747-200s were infamous for seeming to use every inch of the runway on nonstop departures to Islamabad. This made for some quite spectacular photo opportunities at the end of the runway for those brave enough to stand there

Thats right moved to Heathrow and remains canned due to serious security concerns by the home office for British registered carriers.

Additional Stands

I see, from MAG World's website, that additional stands are being introduced by means of reconfigurating stands 80-84.

Upon completion of the works, the new stand capacities will be;

 80L: 73J/32B
 80: A4F
 80R: 73J/32B
 81L: 73C
 81: 772
 81R: 73C
 82L: 73J/32B
 82: 748
 82R: 73J/32B
 83L: 73J/32B
 83: 772
 83R: 73J/32B
 84L: 73J/32B
 84: 772
 84R: 73J/32B

Currently stands 80-81 are single aircraft only. The new layout will mean the potential provision of 2 extra stands. Works starts tomorrow, 23rd May and is scheduled for completion by 10th June.

Trust me it was far more complicated than that.

I'm not a troll but....

In reply to the previous post, Re Betablockeruk; the longer this sort of miss information article, conveying no additional material appears; the more uncertain the prospects of success for the venture appear to become. With MAN there's a political aspect and I wonder if the BHX fiasco was more than a straw in the slipstream - I guardedly presume not; and hopefully success to all parties, if everyone's being honest.

(The BHX Management did not help their prospects by going public precipitously on what was clearly a troubled commercial project this year - There were no details of an agreement on services for a very long time)

A time will come for services of this type from the regions, MAN will be first and EDI & BHX not far behind.

I suppose it does come across (with the benefit of 20:20 hindsight) like a piece of misguided spin by the BHX team. I don't think anyone was taken in by the 'scheduled' tag when those flights were clearly just a rehash of the previous years' charters.
This in itself could have been enough to have upset/annoyed the Chinese - those of us who have done any work there will know just how easy it is to 'do/say the wrong thing'.

Probably a blip, as you say I have no doubt both BHX and EDI will get China flights in the fullness of time. As ever though Manchester is the pathfinder for non London long-haul. If it works at MAN then that's got to be good news for other regionals.

I was just pointing out that the headline actually had little to do with the article and just seemed a liked football fan banter.

I'm sure the BHX thread is debating the issue but I've not looked.

Now to check the Air China website. MAN-PVG... nope.

BCEGI breaks ground on new logistics facility at Airport City Manchester - Manchester Gazette

Work continues with gusto southside, BUT northside "Jakey The JCB" is as illusive as ever since his ever so brief guest appearance adjacent to Saddams Arch two months ago.

ADS Advance - Manchester Airport sees significant cargo growth

•2015/16 – 103,437 tonnes
•2014/15 – 96,610 tonnes
•2013/14 – 95,620 tonnes
•2012/13 – 97,302 tonnes
•2011/12 – 106,438 tonnes
Anyone know what the record was? i.e. when we had regular Dragonair, Cathay, Air China, Great Wall, Fedex and Jett8 freighters on the West apron.
