SOUTHEND 5
I believe the load factors on SXF were 79% in May and 82% in June. Perhaps the yield is also not that good and taken together that just isn't good enough for it to continue next year.

No evidence at all, but surely it makes business sense to have an aircraft in the air and not sitting on the apron, plus there is a huge number of destinations that they are yet to try.

I calculate the load factors on the easyJet routes for June to be:
ALC ... 96%
IBZ ... 94%
JER ... 66%
SXF ... 82%
VCE ... 93%
FAO ... 89%
BCN ... 94%
AGP ... 91%
PMI ... 92%
MAH ... 83%
The IBZ figure could possibly include two BA LCY diversions from IBZ in the month but I don't know if diversions are included in the figure (there seem to be 697 pax in the CAA figures which are not allocated a destination/point of origin). Also I believe AMS changed flight frequencies during the month and I don't know when they changed. It should be noted that JER showed 51% pax growth because a third weekly flight operated in June 2016 compared with 2015, load factor in June 2014 being 68%.

I'm not sure of the exact number of flights in June but load factor for BRN seems to be around 45%. I believe the May figure was very similar.
The schedule wef 19 July is daily except Tuesday and Saturday. This reduced timetable was introduced because BRN-BSL-LCY began on that date.

safety net for Skywork
The revised reduced schedule from Southend to Bern can be seen as a fail-safe plan in case the SEN loads are poor. The departure times are very similar in the evenings so passengers can be roaded to LCY and onto the Saab 2000 via Basel. Where as now they often have 18 passengers, assuming 9 of those might prefer to fly from LCY, that would make SEN route a loss-maker, so that's the end of that then.
I assume Adria have not confirmed a winter schedule despite reasonable loads last month. Plenty of airports with longer runways to poach them away no doubt.
As for Easyjet, still no announcement of new routes for next year, especially to fill the gaps from the seemingly dropped Berlin route (why did this happen?) and dreams of a fourth aircraft based looks remote unless lots more new destinations are tried.
I still believe Copenhagen, Vienna, Rome, Malta, Nice, Prague and Budapest would be popular, not to mention the return of Krakow. (I wonder where all those pax fly from now?).

If you look on the easyJet website you'll find two flights scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Could I suggest that maybe it's better to check there first before posting it as being something unusual?

Taxiway Update
Anyone have any news on the taxiway debacle ? It seems to have gone very very quiet again. 2 years this has been an issue.
I presume aircraft are still back tracking to use taxiway "Alpha" after landing.
With this is mind is anyone really surprised that airlines do not wish to fly into SEN.

Yes I think it does.
If I was an airline wanting to fly into SEN I would want to know the following in relation to the airfield.
1. What is the master plan and investment. Every other airport issues a master plan.
2. Why has it taken 2 years to rectify the issue.
3. How will my operation and OTP be safeguarded.
4. Is the airfield compliant with the CAA/EASA regs. ( at the moment Taxiway Bravo and Charlie are not as the PCN is well below standard or was 2 years ago !
Without these answers if I was an airline executive I would not touch SEN with a barge pole.

As for delays caused by backtracking what is the actual delay to the next aircraft assuming there is another aircraft waiting, which is probably a rare event?
That has to be balanced with other London airports where it can take 15 to 30 minutes to get airborne from push back due to queuing.

What Master plan are you referring to ? If its the latest JAAP on the Rochford Council website in 2014 then that is def not an airport master plan. There are various things missing and def no mention of any taxiways.
In relation to taxying times these are now reduced at most of the busy UK airports as they are using A-CDM as are most of the major airports in Europe which means aircraft are not given push back clearance until absolutely necessary, The taxi time from gate to runway is also taken into account. For example every stand at LHR as specific taxi time depending on departure runway.
I presume this may be rolled out to all airports in Europe at some stage.

There is a definite plan in place to re-align/rebuild certain of the taxiways and I believe this came into the public domain on one of the plans at the time of the recent solar farm planning application. I think it is regrettable that there doesn't yet seem to be a timetable for completing that work but I don't see any need to be alarmist about it.
I also don't see that the lack of a 'new' Master Plan is anything to get excited about so soon after such a major redevelopment of SEN as has taken place. A period of operational experience with the new facilities is surely reasonable before rushing into any further development plans. SEN certainly isn't within the category of European airports where A-CDM would be applicable and I doubt it ever will be.
A number of UK airports have taxiways with similar PCNs to SEN with just one or two of 47 or above; NWI for example and those at LCY are 30. At SEN taxiway Alpha is 47 and Bravo & Charlie are rated at 26 and the latter are restricted in their use. I cannot really see a problem with CAA compliance there but perhaps someone who knows otherwise can comment.
I suspect that very few delays are caused by the current situation but it is undesirable going forward as the loss of the use of Alpha for any reason could be embarrassing.

The published PCN maybe published in the AIP as 26 however in reality they are more like 15 and that was after a survey back in early 2014 . !!
And yes I do have first hand knowledge of that survey

I was quoting you when you wrote
All I was saying is that I don't think Southend needs any new master plan yet as it has just finished a major airport upgrade including a new terminal and apron.
