Well I have just book my first ever flight from SEN took advantage of a good fare on the new SEN-ACE route just booked my seats early days but only me and my partner on the Aircraft so far take it it's an A320 ?
I normally fly from STN but thought I'd try SEN looking forward to it, parking only about £50 for a week is it really a 1-2 min walk to the terminal from the car park
Also any shops, Costa, places to eat ?

Also what time is the latest an aircraft can land at SEN
as its a 2250 arrival time back into SEN ?

If you are in an on-site car park (Stobarts own) then a couple of minutes should do it.
There are some new facilities this year airside but I haven't used them yet, a new bar and restaurant I believe. see London Southend Airport - Home eat and shop.

The airport does close at 12 am but scheduled flights are able to land late into the night if delayed. Don't know what the cut off is.

You are correct, the walk from the car parks to the terminal should take 1-2 minutes.
In terms of shopping and dining, Southend has a WHSmith's, an Arnold & Forbes Café Kitchen, Stobart Airport Shopping (Duty Free), and the Laker Bar and Restaurant which has only recently opened.
In terms of the last flight i'm fairly sure EasyJet aircraft have landed past midnight before, although there are strict limitations on night flights per year that the airport must follow.

Parking your car then walkibg through security to the gate takes around 20 mins all in and assuming just a dozen in the security queue and assuming you've checked in online and got your eticket on your easyJet app.

SEN is the closest experience you'll get to feeling how quickly executive private jet paxclearance can be, SEN is seriously stress free passenger experience. Enjoy.

In first opening flight on 2nd April 2012 we were flying to Barcelona in lovely day dropping by a taxi 2 mins to check in gate and then it take about 14 mins to get to boarding area was quicker I have even been to I have been to lots of UK Airports. Southend airport is one of best. Hope Southend to have success future if it keep it up as best service to impressive customers.

I have to admit I'm looking forward to my first flight from SEN I always fly from STN which is the same traveling time from my home, 35 to 40 mins as it will be to SEN.

The problem if you can call it that is STN has become far to busy and needs a 2nd Terminal, if you take an early morning flight security has become a nightmare and on the return passport control is just as bad.

However I do feel bad that over the years I have loved the fact that new routes have been added and still I look forward to more Airlines and Routes been added.

Now I find myself booked on and easyjet flight from SEN because it will be a quick and easy experience.

Do we really have to know every diversion to SEN?

Not really, although I suppose it's instructive how often LCY flights do end up at SEN.

I guess you can always pass quickly over any posts that don't interest you.

I observed 2 LCY diverts at SEN this afternoon. First was a Flybe from Edinburgh and thereafter the BA from Nice which - unless I am mistaken - was actually operated by the SEN based JOTA aircraft. (Aircraft was towed to its normal JOTA area after pax had disembarked).

As an aside - the walled area between check-in and arrivals landside is looking a bit tatty with its "painted-out" areas. Hopefully this is all a preamble to some new facilities!!!!

BA diverts have been regular as clockwork on Saturdays this summer it seems. I guess it highlights how problematic it is to operate Med flights which frequently come with delays in summer from a departure point where limited operating hours are strictly enforced.

Good news for SEN, but long term it can't do Citiflyer's reputation on such routes any good. If there is a good chance you'll end up elsewhere, you might as well travel from elsewhere in the first place.

LTNman

I'm not sure if flights re-routed in advance of departure, such as yesterday's NCE, are included in those figures - I rather doubt it - but thanks for the data as a rough indication.

Edit: Checking the Southend arrival movement logs the number of diversions from LCY were:

January 10
February 6
March 3
April 3

Newsflash

2 black headed gulls have just diverted into Southend after scheduled to land at Southend sea front.

any one know why ? I cant see any info on flight radar

I suppose that will add to Southend's movements for the year

No we do not need to know about every diversion !!

Yes, OK very humourous but don't you think this particular subject should be laid to rest now? I for one am not prepared to see the SEN forum brought down yet again, as it has been in the past, by these sorts of ungenerous exchanges.

Wise words. Of course diversions are a valid topic for discussion, and both yourself and LTNman show how it ought to be done.

The consolidated figures are informative and give an idea of trends. But to report every single diversion as it happens is just clutter.

Diversions reporting.

I would like to say my penny's worth about this.
Southend these days is not very interesting for commercial flights, unlike the "good old days" when us teenage spotters used to bunk off school to see the C-46s, DC-6s, CV440s, etc operate in addition to the daily BUAF and Channel Airways schedules, so whilst it may not be of interest to those who contribute and read the bigger airport forums, for me it is always interesting to read what extra flights Southend may have had (or about to have) that day. Personally I no longer sit at the airport with VHF radio and binoculars on the table, but it's always nice to see extra flights listed in addition to the 4 operators we currently have. If the word "diversion" gives some readers a nosebleed then I suggest the reporter merely states "extra flight(s) today", albeit diversionary or not. At least for most of us it will give us something to read in between the long gaps of waiting for "other news".

Harking back to the discussion about the "unexpected success" of the rail station, I would guess it is very popular with many local commuters.

It is probably more convenient than Rochford or Prittlewell stations, given the layout of the various housing estates in the vicinity.
