I know PitR is just stirring up the mud in the bottom of our little pond, and it's a point that's been done to death, but it's worth reiterating that Southend is 38 miles from Marble Arch whilst Oxford is 51 miles. Stansted is 36 miles away, Luton 32 miles and Gatwick 25 miles. So in one way none of these can be called London airports, but, in another way, they can (with the exception of Oxford). Who cares? IATA recognise SEN as a London airport and plenty of Londoners use it.

I'm not sure he ever mentions London? The audience is Brits, who know mostly where each airport is.

Hope I'm not being included in this, love EGMC/SEN/Rochford or just good old Southend. Let's cheer this up, many moons ago on a Saturday morning, I turned up to see 3 Sabena 737's on the northern. Anyone remember why? Don't think it happened again, was it a mega shopping trip?

It was a regular event using either Sabena 737s or Delta DC-6s for London shopping trips. There was a spectacular accident one evening when a departing DC-6 had a nosewheel collapse during the take-on run and a couple of propellers separated and struck the wings, fuselage and fin. The aircraft was kept on the centreline and stopped about 20 feet from the end of the paved strip.

Thanks Expressflight. Remember the Delta DC6's, usually parked next to their Icecargo brethren. Oh, happy days!

Work has begun on a £12m scheme which could see passenger services return to Carlisle Lake District Airport.

FMO Pax Numbers Correction

As I thought was the case the CAA provisional stats for the FMO route in October were incorrect.

A total of 1,740 were carried, not 919 as originally shown. As a comparison the LCY-FMO route carried 1,217 in October 2013.

Well, that's more encouraging. Good luck to them.

Stobart must be doing something right - their shares among the top climbers this week.

That's because the cost of filling up all those trucks with diesel is dropping!

Different Stobart - air and rail are a separate company to the trucks.

Wrong.

They are all divisions of the same company.

I thought Eddie Stobart Logistics (the trucks) had been sold off earlier this year and Stobart Group (the rest - ports, rail, air) was now a separate business?

Yes, but Stobart Group still own 49% of Eddie Stobart Logistics, and William Stobart owns another 6%.

Stobart

Well, they appear to need to sort themselves out regarding the airport. Just begun to speak to someone up in the aviation business who wouldn't touch them with a barge poll. Says staff turnover is truly horrendous!

Certainly there has been grumbling about pay and conditions on social media, and claims of very high staff turnover. On the other hand some other individuals working at the airport have painted a better picture. Who knows what the truth is unless you're actually employed there? It's always easy to find folk who will moan about their job, and it's also easy to gain a poor reputation within the industry. But SEN wouldn't be alone in that, by any means.

Two large LED signs advertising flyBE flights from SEN have appeared at Liverpool Street station. Good to see that some high profile advertising is taking place.

Just out of interest, are the recent Santa flights added to the total months pax figure or not? Part of me says their not since they are not actually going anywhere, but on the other hand the terminal still has to process them through? Any thoughts on this?

Also Flybe are supposed to be releasing all S15 flights today but something tells me they won't. I'll keep an eye out on their website.
