It was a regular event using either Sabena 737s or Delta DC-6s for London shopping trips. There was a spectacular accident one evening when a departing DC-6 had a nosewheel collapse during the take-on run and a couple of propellers separated and struck the wings, fuselage and fin. The aircraft was kept on the centreline and stopped about 20 feet from the end of the paved strip.
