SOUTHEND 5
SkyWork Summer 2015 Schedule
The SkyWork schedule commencing the end of March 2015 shows 12 x weekly flights from BRN to SEN; double-daily Monday to Friday with one flight on Saturdays and Sundays. There is a reduction to 8 x weekly during August.

Flybe/Stobart Air
Well it's almost 2 weeks since this was last brought up, but still only Dublin bookable past March 2015. I wonder if there are some changes coming to the schedules (maybe destinations too?) since it is taking quite a long time for them to release it for booking. Most other airlines have their S15 flights out now.

STN could not take any more diversions on a Wednesday afternoon?? Good Lord. How many did LCY send to STN to fill them up? Or were STN taking diverts from elsewhere too? I note that Mr. Johnson says that much of London was afflicted with thick fog. Which other airports were fogbound?

Well mikkie - on the LCY twitter feed tonight they are stating that they anticipate low visibility tomorrow morning and are advising passengers to contact their airline. But - of course - who knows whether SEN will also be affected? We must hope not. Jolly inconvenient for all passengers concerned.

The last thing airports want are large numbers of diversions, there simply are not enough ground staff available, thus the stories of passengers being held on planes for many hours following a diversion.

LCY
Last forecast I saw (several hours ago admittedly) was for low cloud to lift at 0600...just in time for LCY to open it's runway for the morning rush....has anything changed in the forecast??

As buster says, it was lack of handling agents rather than space. I think 3 CFE aircraft and a Luxair dash 8 came in plus a few biz jets from Luton.
When you have plenty of scheduled traffics it's fair enough to protect your regular paying customers.

Diversions
Following Southend's last major diversion opportunity for LCY 29/10 when only 2 actual diverts could be handled before it was "Full" - FLYBE additionally re-scheduled a few flights into and back out with their pax bussed from LCY, todays performance has been very much better throughout the day. i made it 14 LCY commercial diverts plus the business flights mentioned above.
STN got about 10 and tonight LGW about 4 so SEN came off best.
Whilst diverts maybe a pain for some major airports who are generally very busy with their own traffic, Southend needs all of the flights it can get these quiet days as the diversion revenue is very important for the bottom line. On today's performance, i assume the core handling staff needed for the scheduled traffic successfully handled these diverts as well.
interestingly, as before, FLYBE re-scheduled some of their later flights this afternoon into Southend, bussing the pax from LCY for the return flights back home. A smart move considering the number of cancellations at LCY all day.

Just had a look at the departure and arrival board for Southend today. Only 3 easyjet departures all day with the first departure at 15:30 and the first arrival at 18:00.
What I find strange is that 2 of the services are to Amsterdam but they are only 3 hours apart so losing any potential business passengers looking for a day return.
It seems that going by the easyjet routes that they have dropped maybe easyjet have given up on business passengers flying from Southend because there is no demand? The same can be said for Flybe as even their Dublin route, which was claimed here to be popular is now only flown once a day.

Berne PR
Well, SEN actually got a mention in the travel section of the Daily Mail today in an article on Berne. They were the only flights mentioned on getting there, with the ski season now on us perhaps this will be good news for Skywork? Dunno what they charge for skis though, they can add heavily to the flight ticket, and may indeed be limited on the Dornier anyway.

Maastricht PR
Also there was an article on trips to Maastricht that appeared on the Independent online by Simon Calder, who still resists calling us 'London'-Southend. Be interesting to see if the route continues beyond March 28th.
