Southend misses out on the Dundee - London contract. The route will continue into STN with Loganair as it was the cheaper of the two bids made.
The tender sought bids to operate a minimum service between Dundee Airport and any one of six London airports. “The two bids received were for services operating from Dundee to Stansted and Dundee to Southend.
“The subsidies required for the initial period of two years contained in the bids were as follows; Dundee to Stansted £3.672 million and Dundee to Southend £4.403m.”
An opportunity missed? I'm not sure. A succession of empty flights between SEN and Dundee probably would not enhance SEN's image at a time when they are making a big push for credibility.
More welcome news is that JOTA are planning to purcxhase at least another three RJ/146 variants including two Quiet Traders. Their growth has been prudent and both Mr Green and Mr Sessions are talented individuals. I wonder if, a few years hence, JOTA may try some schedules from SEN? I'd have thought a SEN-EDI and SEN-RTM may be viable due to the RBS and London Gateway connections? That would provide some security during the winter down time for ACMI operations. Just a thought......
This morning all SEN-FSC flight dates are showing fares of £410 and FSC-SEN £400. It could be just a glitch but historically Flybe have done something similar when a route is about to be pulled for one reason or another.

No surprise really. I'll be pleasantly surprised if more than half a dozen of the new routes prove viable in the long term. I would have thought there were better ones to go for....... as we have listed on here several times.

BUD LYS MXP PGF PRG VIE are the only routes left
30 mins later they're all back. (I'm simply looking at the destinations from SEN on Flybe website)
Does anyone have a clue what's going on?

I've just visited the Flybe website and tried Corsica and Venice and both are bookable. Perhaps there just been some big blip somewhere? All will no doubt become clear before too long (I hope)

They're obviously making some sort of changes as there were no problems with the ticketing system before. Maybe they're updating the aircraft as well? Who knows, but looks like some routes might already be being chopped.

When I checked earlier Figari didn't appear in the drop down menu for SEN, and now it's magically reappeared. Still got the £400 prices though...

If Flybe pull this route, I am going to be livid. I encouraged my parents to book their holiday to Corsica this year as they hate using Gatwick. If these flights disappear, I am going to have some explaining to do. I am emailing BE now.

Wow. Well - todays Southend Echo features a full page - Flybe / Southend Airport/ Echo ad offering 20% off fares booked until 16/03 for travel between May - mid-July. Surely they would not withdraw a route on the day this is published? (Caen, Groningen and Rennes are NOT included).
Yes, that does seem strange doesn't it? I've just booked a weekend in VIE to take advantage of the 20% discount and you would think they would wait until at least after the end of the discount period before dropping any of the routes.
