That is excellent news; according to comments from Mr Dewar, DL told EDI that they regretted stopping over the winter period in 16/17 due to the route performing well so its no surprise to see them going year round.
I would imagine its with Norwegian in mind too though.

Scotland-US in winter remains a weak market, this feels more about strategically throttling Norwegian as all other things being equal, that same B757/B767 could likely make more money for Delta elsewhere.

Yet UA have operated year round for years.
So AA UA UA UA DL in summer becomes UA and part season DL in winter. Adding in Norwegian just makes things that bit tougher. Great for the consumer though.
Open question is when or if a B757 replacement decision is taken among the US3.

TUI are selling ny citybreaks from EDI using AA. Maybe that will support AYR operations.
Given Edinburgh's status as a financial centre is there much premium traffic?
And does much cargo, eg salmon go out in the hold?

I had a conversation with someone recently who was saying that AA have by far the worst onboard product on the TATL routes from EDI. Their 757s could really do with an interior upgrade - I am not sure if this is planned though.
While DY wont have PTVs, they do have Wi-Fi with the ability to stream movies.

Cargo is carried shellfish etc, but not huge amounts with a narrow body operation. Need a widebody to really start shifting big volumes of cargo.

Thanks for that information. It's too easy to forget the importance of cargo to the viability of a service.
By the way, and I don't really want to wake up the GLA fanboys, but am I right in thinking that GLA 'gamed' their traffic growth % this week by allowing for the shorter month? Quite sensible, really, but only if every other airport did the same.

'fanboys' and many new apparently informed posts in such a short time... you would almost think you had been here before in another guise.... 😉
Doesnt UA GLA often carry more to EWR in the winter than EDI? less dramatic peaks and troughs.

How much added benefit is bulk cargo on the B757? It's not palletised alas.
American have a terrible hard product on the B757, that's part of the reason BHX-JFK was dropped, LHR-JFK had a much better offering. Let's park the wee GLA vs EDI stuff? Take it to PM I could see United using B767s at EDI, the B757s are getting on a bit, er much like the older B767s !

Think Theresa May has already done that with a hard Brexit look at the £v$€¥. The ending of free movement is the biggest threat to Scottish Airports in a life time. From the numbers of EU nationals employed at the airport, EU staff (pilots/cabin crew) working for airlines living in the U.K. and actually EU Pax filling seats on planes. Regulation of flights, will there be freedom rights. Intl flights from Dundee, Inverness & Kirkwall will end as they'll not get permission (currently an airline from the EU doesn't need permission from the Home Office, as it costs money to staff airports with Border Force would they agree to provide them). GA flights to Europe controlled & full passport checks on Eire flights. Ryanair unable to run Domestic flights. Norwegian unable to fly EDI to USA as an EU carrier. Do I need to go on. The Independence vote is a vote so Scotland can keep things like these! The Westminster government has said that it'll go to WTO rules as a default if no agreement. I for one, who works at Scottish Airports are worried about Brexit not Scottish Independence!
