I was told by a fairly reliable source and I also notice that somebody on Airliners.net saying its mentioned in an Aviation Daily article which is unfortunately behind a paywall (see the China Eastern to IAH thread).

Surely the population of Shanghai and S China is much larger than Beijing, and it's also the financial centre, so may generate significant premium traffic to Edinburgh.

Does that replace or run with the other Ocean Terminal bus? No' 35 run every 12 minutes Airport to Ocean Terminal currently.

Its in addition to the 35. Even though the terminus at the other end is the same, the new service will cover a completely different route and enhance access to the airport from the likes of Newhaven, Granton, Muirhouse, Blackhall and Drumbrae etc.

The 35 links the airport to the Gyle, Sighthill, Gorgie, the Old Town and Leith Walk.

As far as I am aware, the 35 doesn't charge a special fare for the final section into the airport. However the new 200 will, as might be guessed from its special number.

Pvg-Edi

NichCage on Airlines.net has posted this question

"Nice expansion by China Eastern. The question that I have is that how is China Eastern going to fly to Edinburgh? The longest runway at Edinburgh Airport is 8,386 feet. Not long enough for an A332 non-stop service. Landing may be okay, but taking off would be restricted with a short runway 8,386 feet long."

Anyone hazard a guess at how they will get round this? what equipment will they use?

I wonder if and when an announcement will come...

I would suggest that the B789s or A359s due for delivery from 2018 could be used for Edinburgh flights if the A332 is unviable, but remember that PVG-EDI would not require an A332 to be fully loaded with fuel, so maybe the A332 could manage to take off from EDI.

It's been suggested that the route will start this year so it will have to be an a332. It will be either not be at MTOW or it will be making at stop at ARN first.

According to the detailed performance data published by Airbus, a Trent 700 powered A332 could take off from EDI at 11,000kg less than maximum take-off weight of 233,000kg on a standard day. PVG is 4,888nm great circle distance from EDI and the prevailing winds will generally assist. That should be enough for a full pax load and a decent amount of cargo.

That's a return to Turkey. I think they offered one of these in 2016.

Appears they will be using 738 equipment on these routes. Is this additional to the current 733s and 738 based at Edinburgh? .....are the expanding the fleet based at EDI or just slowly replacing the old 733's.
