The domestic arrivals process is the norm at most U.K. Airports now, especially with the low cost carriers in play on domestic routes. Every few domestic flights get the special air bridge treatment with the exception of the BA Heathrow flights and occasional Gatwick. Only Heathrow can you almost guarantee an air bridge at the other end. If you just don't like it stop moaning get the train to the SE England for more money, more time and shoddy service. I will stick with good old EDI. It's improving and will get better with the extensions.
Oh and the airport is my anyway near capacity either. It had its peaks but plenary of quieter times too. Bring in the more direct flights.....

Most UK airports have at least got the domestic baggage screened off from public don't they? I don't recall walking through the departure lounge in LTN, STN, LCY, LHR, LGW, BHD, BFS, MAN or BHX. GLA and EDI, yes, but it seems to be the minority of airports where this happens. Most have a dedicated route that keeps arriving and departing pax separate.
The domestic baggage belts at EDI are pretty unacceptable in this day and age, public access should not be allowed frankly. They had their chance to screen it off for years, but have plonked that silly new check in area there. Why that couldn't have gone where belt 6 is and a new reclaim belt put where the jet 2 check in area is, thus allowing an enclosed baggage reclaim, I don't know, but it seems to be a huge wasted opportunity.
Yes, EDI is growing, but the extensions will only do so much to alleviate the problems.Like you say, it's got it's peaks, but those peaks really do stretch it to the limit. Ques for security were down past the luggage point one day recently and the very next day were re-routed down to beyond the Costa Coffee at International 1. That continued for several days during the peak morning rush. It's no good saying that there are quiet times when the terminal can't cope during the times of high demand. Eventually a significant or total rebuild is going to have to be looked at. Yes, it'll cause huge disruption, but if done in stages the end result will be worth it for a future proof airport. The work being done now will bring them up to where they should have been about 10 years ago, let's be honest. I say this as someone who works at EDI and who supports the airport and the direct routes as much as is practically possible, but a lot of work is needed and pop up check in desks are not the answer.

Too early for that yet - suspect we will have to wait for the June stats from CAA. The first flight had 120 onboard apparently and there are a few over the next few weeks showing as FULL but it should be noted that the 738s have seats blocked that the MAXs won't when they arrive.

I know that the LHR-EDI flights have been very busy this weekend with flights being operating with over 95% load factor since Friday afternoon which will have made rerouting a bit difficult.

Major delays at EDI due to significant power failure to main supply and even back up failed. The stack em' high philosophy certainly putting strain on infrastructure again.

DY aren't the only airline where aircraft have technical issues which cause cancellations.

Some people are just waiting for any bad news at EDI, always hoping something will go wrong or get cancelled. In reality EDI is one of the fastest growing UK airports and are adding quality airlines and routes every year.

And it is incredible in this day and age that domestic baggage reclaim is still open to anyone in the building.
Although there is undoubtedly investment in aprons and parking stands this year, the mantra in the terminal seems to be to cram as much as possible into as little space as possible. Still, GIP will be gone just as soon as they can sell EDI and some poor unsuspecting pension or sovereign wealth fund will be stuck with the massive bill to provide the terminal and customer infrastructure that should have been there to cope with current traffic levels.

There is quite a significant terminal expansion due to start soon which I hope will address many of the issues covered. I guess it's been a case of prioritising investment so far.
Security is far far better now though and works very well - I haven't had an issue there for months.

Look forward to the expansion works, hopefully it will bring more space both landslide and airside and I don't agrue that it needs more space especially at check in and domestic arrivals. They are marking the best of what they have.

It is. It is just a shame that they are not adding quality infrastructure to go with the growth. The terminal is now a complete shambles with several airlines now being forced to check-in on the equivalent of an upturned travel trunk before customers then need to lug their bags elsewhere to be checked in, and the security experience remains utterly awful on two recent trips through there. It's impossible to judge which queue to join, as the random meandering nature of the tensabarriers invariably ends up with you being diverted off the path that you thought you were going to take.

Who would have the money to buy it then spend the extra money (if you go by Manchesters example £1 Billion) on a brand new terminal? It would take decades I suspect to recoup that...
Any expansion of terminal space at EDI will most likely be filled with retail outlets. The shambles that is Edinburgh is no more than a shopping centre with a runway, where passengers are an afterthought till they reach the shops.
I used to pass through the airport 3 or 4 times a week, thank heaven I don't have to do it anymore, twice a year on holiday is more than enough.

There will definitely be a new permanent immigration space and additional gates with gate rooms which are linked directly to immigration. The extension should also allow an expanded check-in and baggage areas.
I've flown through there twice in the last four weeks and on both occasions, security has been awful. On the first occasion, queues to get into the magic tensabarrier maze stretched back to the top of the escalators from check-in. On the second, queues were slightly shorter but took longer to get through and everyone had to navigate their way around a slick of iced mocca-frappa-crappa-chino from Starbucks on the floor in tensa-barrier-land which none of the airport staff (to whom this was clearly vislble) appeared remotely bothered about. The place is a total disgrace.
The whole airport reeks of efforts to cram as much into as little infrastucture as possible to maximise ROI at the expense of customer experience and achieve a sale.

It also appears that EDI management got on top of the power outage very quickly, in sharp contrast to the BA debacle at LHR a little while ago. Also, Norwegian is one of Europe's largest and most successful airlines. Comparisons with Globespan are frankly ridiculous.
