The new Edinburgh Gateway station should make travel to the airport by train easier. I'd heard that the Virgin East Coast and CrossCountry trains from the south which continue north to Dundee and Aberdeen will eventually call at the Gateway station allowing a ten minute transfer by tram to the terminal. This will allow more seamless and quicker connections to Newcastle.
