WORK IN PROGRESS?

I was under the impression that there was work going on internally with the enlargement of the ´´baggage system´´ which was due to start last month. Maybe somebody could verify this please.

I have seen nothing, no contractor vans no contractor village being built, nothing. Just a temporary fence surrounding 14 trees and one section of fencing removed in the mid term for the wood to be removed. As for the baggage system only the reclaim area is getting improved and expanded but some walls would need to be knocked down first.

Oslo
Stockholm
Dubai
Islamabad
New York
Orlando
Cancus
Jeddah

What an interesting list LTNMan.

It's easy to see how some routes could become a reality but I'd be amazed if all these happen soon. Surprised there's no mention of domestic routes like Jersey and Guernsey

Oslo & Stockholm begs the SAS question, but I won't hold my breath.

Oslo and Stockholm...

Oslo & Stockholm begs the SAS question, but I won't hold my breath.
To add further speculation to this, if you look at this article posted the other day, the maps at the bottom also show routes to Stockholm and Oslo!

Enlarged Map from the article.

Interesting route map.

It would be fantastic if Oslo and Stickholm do become a reality. If they do, SAS is s definite possibility but perhaps easyJet will make a move into these markets?

Strangekg the map ignores all UK and Ireland routes!

Forgive me, I don't mean to ask the (probably) blatantly obvious - do you mean Cancun or Cancus? I'm not aware of anywhere called Cancus hence I ask the question

I imagine the original post meant to say Cancun which seems a perfectly reasonable route to aim for, although hard to see it happening just yet

If Cancun possible off of LTN's runway? Even with a 787 I would think that it would be somewhat restricted. However if that is not the case, then TOM flying weekly to SFB and CUN does not seem too far fetched.

Yep it should read Cancun, sorry for any confusion.

I wonder who would fly Luton-Jeddah? Would Jeddah be a natural stopping off point for Islamabad?

Changing the subject somewhat the M1 junction 10-10A-Airport Way upgrade is on its final construction phase. Once finished the bottle neck roundabout at the jucntion of Airport Way and the motorway will have been replaced by a new road that will be 6 lanes in places. The road should be finished around May. A map of how it will look when it is finished is linked below which the airport is already promoting.

I would suggest the Jeddah route being seasonal just for when the Hadj is in progress, cannot think of any other reason.

They could fill a couple of flights with just the airports taxi drivers.

Who would run such flights, Etihad like El Al does as an overflow from LHR where demand requires it?

Think the LTN fraternity will like this article, which "FR@STN" posted in another forum...

Ryanair, easyJet, Vueling, and Wizz Air?s growth airports

Talks about the low cost airlines in Europe and where they are focusing their growth this summer.

In summary, LTN is easyJet's fastest growing base this summer, and see an increase of 46 additional flights a week in August 2015 compared to August 2014.

Luton is Wizzair's third fastest growing base this summer with 27 additional flights a week on a typical August week in 2015 compared to August 2014.

Grrr

If you can fly Luton to Hawaii full in a 787, Cancun is easy!

I thought one of the big attractions of the 787 was that it can operate long distances from shorter runways than other long-haul jets which makes it an ideal operating type for an airport like Luton?

Hopefully Thomson might be persuading to bring theirs to their home base although given the lack of long haul charters in recent years, I can't see why that would change any time soon.

The Hadj flights used to be mainly charters operated by a variety of carriers including Laker and Monarch but with the increase in Middle East operators I would suggest those would be the ones to operate such a service.

Airline and Airport Growth

In relation to gilesdavies comment regarding the extra movements at Luton by EasyJet and Wizzair, there is the potential for 146 extra movements a week which would confirm why Luton Airport is expected to handle 11.4 million passengers this year end!

The airport is heading for major growth and with Esasyjet stating last year that they intend to double their fleet size at Luton compared to the then 15 aircraft (currently 17?) then the next ten years are going to be very interesting as the 18 million mark might become reality several years earlier then expected?

Once easyJet do get to a point of doubling their fleet size at LTN it will be fascinating to see what their route map is?

No doubt some existing routes will see increased frequencies - I can think of a few that could probably sustain extra rotations e.g. BCN, SXF, CDG, MAD, LIS, PMI, AGP....... but doubtless we will see more and more new routes introduced over the coming years which is very exciting

I fancy they will target the Nordics and Italy.

They connect Catania but I think they should re-connect the old Palermo charter route to sicily. Considering FR dropped Trapani. The likes of Turin, Florence, Genoa and Bologna could be worth a punt.

Anywhere in Sweden, Norway of Finland would be welcome.
