Point-to-point long haul as a single entity just doesn't work with a handful of aircraft - let alone for an all-business operator. Its totally unprofitable.

Seem to remember that Virgin started out with one 747

This isn't a 747 with c400 seats. Its an operator with 2 ageing fuel guzzling 757s with just 50-55 (75% load factor) fare paying passengers each way 4 times a week. Guessing at 15 tonnes of kerosene each way. Plus the lease/engineering/technical support costs. Plus staff and other costs.

The business model doesn't work. Maxjet, Silverjet and EOS proved that.

The reason why easyJet an Ryanair haven't gone for low cost long haul is because they can't utilise their aircraft more than 2 sectors a day - they can't pack their aircraft for a cheap cost. Their RASK decreases and CASK massively increases.

You better tell them then that they are doomed. Mind you I would not invest any money in the airline.

I meant all the 'it's never going to work' posts.

We will obviously see what happens.

La Compagnie

Interesting flight times - with a 10.30am arrival, assuming they do use the main terminal they'll avoid the morning peak. I guess the 5.45pm departure is timed so business travellers can work in the UK during the day before flying out to NY.

Good luck to them, they'll need it on this highly competitive route. Let's hope they can make a go of it.

FRatSTN. That is an impressive piece of research that you have produced there.

La Compagnie website is not that user friendly. For a start everything is priced in US dollars.

Here is a breakdown of the promotional £1007 fare for 2 people. At just £252 per leg per passenger it is some what of a bargain.

Taxes and Surcharges:
(YC) US Customs user fee 5.50
(XY) US Federal inspection fee 7.00
(US) US various taxes 35.40
(XA) US Animal & Plant health inspection 5.00
(AY) US security service fee 5.60
(GB) AIR PASSENGER DUTY 106.80
(UB) PASSENGER SERVICE CHARGE 16.50
(YQ) Carrier imposed surcharge 398.40
(XF) US Passenger facility charges 4.50
Total Taxes and Surcharges: 584.70

Total per passenger category: $757.70
x 2

Total per passenger category: $1515.40

Those fares are for May 11th returning May 17th. It can take a while to dig out a pair of promotional fares.

La Compagniee Review

Not sure how they will compete with other business class products, think this may go the same way as Silverjet/Maxjet/Eos

I remember...

When everyone said EasyJet would fail. In turn I remember that typically Silverjet handled 65 passengers per flight but not enough to get through a recession with 767's!

This new airline may be onto a winner and I hope Luton proves to be just as fruitful as it was for EasyJet, a different clientele yes but an airport with a catchment area that includes the elite from Hampstead to Harpenden to even the rich folk who some might not believe or accept actually live here in Luton !

Good luck to to La Compagnie and I hope to see a daily schedule soon.

Famous old saying... Don't count your chickens before they've hatched.
Some of you are discussing VERY different business models with the likes of Virgin and easyJet. Good luck to them. They'll need it.

Just added up FRatSTN impressive work.

32 movements in 1 hour and 5 minutes in later afternoon and that is excluding biz jet movements.

There was I thinking that Luton only really had a morning rush but I was completely wrong. This must be getting close to a Gatwick runway rate.

Grrr

The Boss of 'The Company' says...."Why the hell did [Eos] fly out of Stansted?", he asks. "We didn't like Stansted – it was way too low-cost for us in terms of image." In contrast, he says, Luton is a "boutique airport" – possibly the first time it has been described thus.

Boutique Buster eh - Oh la la!

I wonder if La Compagnie have any measures in place to protect its passengers from Aerotoxic fumes? considering they are using 757's which are the worst offenders for this. The premium passengers that would use the service I'm sure would not want to be exposed to organophosphate poisoning.

So Eos failed because it flew from Stansted and not Luton, somehow a boutique airport!?
Silverjet failed because going to Dubai was the stupidest thing in the airline industry!?

I'd go as far to say the "stupidest" thing I have ever seen in the airline industry is the bull**** this guy's coming out with!!

Cannot see La Compagnie lasting based on this, nor does it make me want to!!

I would say no for Luton but Luton is on a roll at the moment and already has flag carriers here. I would have thought Stansted would be more likely unless Ryanair already fly's the route
