Vueling

Just tried to book flights to Luton to Zurich with Vueling for mid February but they are only bookable up to 02nd January 2017 ! That didn't last very long ?

Looks like it will have to be EasyJet.

Robbie1973, I'm booked on a LTN-ZRH Vueling flight on the 11th February, I've heard nothing to the contrary from Vueling and see it's still bookable.

It would appear that Vueling's Luton-Zurich route (sort of) terminates on 02 February in that it revives for 5 days to cover the brief skiing peak in demand for the 2 weekends around school half term in February. Somebody in the revenue department has a brain between their ears it seems...

Given it looks like EZY isn't continuing the Canaries routes into next summer, I wonder if a TFS or ACE might happen with VY?

Signature FBO

The good folk at Signature have waited many years from the first proposal of a new FBO to the completion of this superb building so they deserve their celebration. Looking at the size of the marque I think it is safe to say that they are expecting quite a large crowd.

A video of the build can be seen here.

Got to say their aprons were absolutely heaving today with a big over spill onto the pond. We will have to wait and see what happens to their terminal 2 which is located by the former flying club. Both the aprons there also seemed somewhat busy.

The Canaries routes are now on sale until the end of June. Still odd that they aren't on sale yet for the rest of the summer like most of their routes.

TFS and ACE I'm presuming wont be on sale during the peak summer months like most of EZY's canary operations from other airports such as SEN and NCL. They operate these routes when demand for other sun routes such as Spain and the Greek Islands drop in the winter months and they have the spare aircraft available to operate these mid-haul routes. They can achieve higher yields on shorter mainland routes in the summer peak.

Two road signs have gone up on the approach road to the drop off zone that now mention the £1 per minute charge after 10 minutes as well as the £3 standard charge for 10 minutes.

No signs about charges appear inside withe drop off zone.

A friend of mine got a puncture and picked up an exit fee of £19.

For several months now the tow vehicle has been withdraws from the drop off area so there are usually at least 3 cars without their drivers at any one time. The drivers will now be in for a nasty surprise when they eventually drive away.

It seems that most companies are now only confirming seasons month by month. In days of your, they had to print brochures to cover the whole season - now they can release in easy stages. It they suddenly decided to change one month/week or a single day, then that's possible. I don't think anything can be read into not having a particular month on sale on the same date every year. The technology allows companies to have more thinking time.

Vueling have Florence on sale again from the start of May, 3x Weekly. Surprisingly no mention of this on the airport website and it's not even bookable through their booking engine!

Construction update

This week work was completed on digging out the embankment by the fire station for the dual carriageway. Today work has started at the other end of the tunnel

11 months after the builders first took control of the former bus station the first steels have been erected.

Meanwhile work continues on the new terminal frontage.

With the new drop off zone yet to be completed soil samples are being taken for its eventual demise as this is the location for the new station.

Of course there is the issue of their maintenance hangar. With Signature gaining an unplanned hangar with their takeover it would not surprise me if Easyjet moved in to Monarchs old hangar 7-8 for their Airbus maintenance.
Don't CSE Citation Centre live their now freeing up space in other facilities?

They have a van or two based at Luton but I don't know what hangar they use as Luton is a mobile centre. In January they are being re-branded as Signature as they are part of the BBA.

Signature had their no expenses spared bow tie party last week so the marquee is now gone. Just a few lamp posts to go back and the job is almost done. I think the airports old ground tower is still planned to be knocked down just to increase Signatures new apron just a fraction and then that is it. The new FBO building will be opened to customers any day now.
