The plan in post 3383 on page 170 gives the airport another 5 stands but as pointed out at the time the drop off zone was to go into the multistory car park and the airport would have to loose all its surface parking.
The biggest reason why it won't happen is because there has been no forward planning in the design of the existing upgrade to increase capacity beyond 18,000,000. This is because the total number of passengers the airport has calculated the CTA can handle is 18,000,000 so the rest of the projects have been sized with that in mind.
In fact where capacity beyond 18 million has been identified the plans have been scaled back. An example being that the passenger foot bridge from the multistory car park was originally planned to be 20m wide is now only going to be a fraction of that width so could not handle the drop off foot traffic from a shifted drop off area. Add to that the width of the staircases at either end would be a major problem and only 2 and 3 lifts per core would not be enough.
Also extra stands are just one part of the jizsaw of increasing capacity and the fact that the pier B link building has been, as the airport describes it "value engineered" down in size so inbound and outbound passengers will now be on the same level so there will be no room for travelators is not going to help.
I know someone will be mentioning moving the drop off to the easyjet building but all that will give the airport another set of 4 short lanes that the airport is now getting rid off with exit barriers at the end of the lanes again.
I think the airport will grow to beyond 18 million passengers but that growth will come from piling more passengers into the terminal and CTA that they can both comfortably cope with. In fact just like it is today!

I am thinking more outside the CTA.
If you think about it, what is to say that the drop off would be inside the CTA once the light rail link is built. If as has been suggested a station will be built in the mid term car park then could we see the drop off area being built there and passengers just use the rail link into the terminal?
Regarding the Easyjet hangar, if it did come down I doubt just four surface lanes would be built anyway. It would be prime development land.
What about the MSCP that will be built down by Parkway , could that be better utilised?
I just think that future developments, should the airport expand further, would be outside the CTA.

Anyone would think we were living in little ol' England ...

For growth above 18,000,000 I think eventually the drop off area could indeed move to the midterm car park. Passengers will be light railed in and the tunnel will be closed to passengers cars.
The multistory car park will become a staff car park and a compound for meet and greet which will also have offices in the mid term car park.
If that is done more stands can be built in the CTA but then the terminal will need extending, to extend the terminal the bus station will need moving probably again to the mid term car park.
A long term multistory car park will indeed be built next to Parkway as already planned now but I doubt a short term multistory car park could be built in the mid term car park as it will be too close to the runway. Now that might cause a problem for the airport and could be a show stopper.

Exec Movements
.. The likely airports of choice are already seeing significantly more exec use : Farnborough, Biggin, Cambridge and Bournemouth.

I hear what you are saying but the likes of Signature are spending £££££ on a new FBO and they would not be doing that if they were not given some sort of commitment from the airport although some movements could well end up somewhere else.
Farnborough, Biggin, Cambridge all are heavily restricted. I think I read that Bournemouth will no longer be 24 hour soon.
Don't know why Stansted doesn't take more biz jets. Most seem to fly past the place while heading for Luton.
Worth remembering that Luton can always add capacity to the runway and pockets of land for biz jet parking still exist undeveloped around the airport for long and short term parking.

On going growth
@Itchin McCrevis,
I think the point made was simply to demonstrate that the airport did not 'implode' on the day and therefore could 'technically' handle 18.4 million passengers a year.
If air travel is to double by 2032 and London remains being short of a runway that is still years away from being built, then it can be construed LTN has a lot more growth potential.

So where and what is this then? Looks like a light rail station next to the multistory car park by the view out of the left hand window except it is facing the wrong way. Not sure that matters for an artists impression. A use for that pocket of land I mentioned the other day? It could be the Parkway end but it has already been established that the trains will depart from there from above and not below.
( edit) That might well be the light rail station forecourt at Parkway with the light rail track straight ahead and the escalators leading to platform 1 for trains to London. The new multistory car park would then be indeed on the left as looking out of the window the station is above the trees.
