Over the last weekend Addison Lee moved into the taxi rank with their Ford Galaxy's which has changed the ethnicity of the rank but the local taxi drivers haven't given up as many of them have created an unofficial taxi rank in the drop off zone. Yes that's right, the already compact drop off zone now offers even less kerb space to the public.

To add the the airports distress Wizz aircraft were parked up with engines running in the engine run up bay, the compass swing bay and on the south stands where they had parked at a 45 degree angle together with a Ryanair.

Aircraft were still taking off but these ones never moved all the time I was there.

LTNman. I guess they were remote holding due to slots from the French ATC strike. The GMC controllers nightmare (but it does count as an on time departure).

Just asked for a quote for an Addison Lee car from The airport to Old Bedford Road/Priory Gardens. £29.60. Sorry AL cars. Walk to Ibis phone local taxi firm £10.00 including tip. Is this the future trend of all payments us passengers are going to be stung for , for using our local airport

Mmmm, Addison Lee.

Having witnessed their Neanderthal drivers both at Luton and Heathrow, I would recommend anyone to use a broken pogo stick to move around in preference to their company.

I wonder what their employment criteria for drivers is?

They are allegedly cheaper than the airports old black cabs with the bonus of fix pricing but I agree the price seems very high. I wonder what the airports cut would be of that fare.

There is certainly less cabs in the rank now that a new operator has taken over, which has to be a good thing, as before it was often getting quite unmanageable.

No need to walk to the Ibis....I've been calling local taxi companies to pick me up from the airport for years. OK, there is the rip-off exit charge but I've saved a packet over the years compared to using the black cabs

Me too, remember arriving on a Sunday evening once, just jumped in a black cab, I think it was rate 4, it was £10 before I even got past the cash point opposite Vauxhalls, never made that mistake again. Phone ahead, even with exit charge saved 50%!

I don't think you can use your bus pass on the shuttle as they issue a train ticket to use it and not a bus ticket.

I have been using my bus pass ever since the set down charge came in. The only change that has happened is that now you cannot use the pass before 9.30.
Luton borough used to allow any time on the buses but when the cut backs came early morning use stopped.

I wonder how that will affect the Blue Air LTN-TRN?

I think Blue Air will win this battle. Easy jet have gone in with a weekly flight on a Saturday. Blue air will offer 4 weekly flights which gives the customer much more choice.

EJ's Turin service is purely for the skiing season, same as Grenoble.
Doubt it will have any impact on Blue Air

I see easyJet have announced that they will be keeping their H.Q at Luton. Probably just a kneejerk reaction McCall made post-Brexit result.

Redevelopment update

Nothing major to report this week.

The link building has been given a metal sheeting floor to allow concrete to be poured on both the first and second level.

The last to be built third core has almost been completely clad.

With the two parts of the link building in the background I try to take photos off peak to avoid the crowds but even then it is sometimes impossible.

It looks like the replacement link road to the fire station is about to be opened and the first trench is being dug on the grass embankment leading to the tunnel that will become the second carriageway.

Most of the mid term car park that was closed off has now reopened and already seems full again after just 24 hours.

If that's off-peak, I hate to think what it's like when it's really busy!

LTNman,
I always thought from previous pictures of the development that the Pier Link would butt up against the undercroft wall(right hand side of your photo) and would be over the delivery/access road.
Do you know if they still intend to have this undercroft access in the future because i can't see on the road layout how they will gain access?.
