VLM

So the Waterford flights finish next week.
Sudden , although some would say it was coming with VLMs problems.
Surprised they didn't see it through the busy summer season though.

It is a pity but I am not surprised considering they are fighting for survival !

Hopefully another carrier can be found to replace VLM on the Waterford route in the near future.

Such a shame, it's a route that seems an ideal fit for Luton, although clearly not so for VLM. I wonder who else could reasonably take on the route successfully - BMI Regional, Eastern, or is the route set to disappear again??

If only FlyBe hadn't given up on Luton!!

VLM

The management at Waterford are currently seeking to replace VLM on the route.

For me personally an aircraft the size of a Saab 340 would be ideal and I hope another airline comes along soon.

If not feasible maybe Waterford should seek to extend it's runway because if long enough to take a typical A318 sized aircraft it might flourish?

Flying for the first time from LTN next Tuesaday - 11:05 EZY to Barcelona.
I have the long stay car park booked - what is the best route into that car park at about 09:00?

9am you will be fine (edit, just checked at 7:52 and traffic is running free) for the final mile but I can still give you an alternate route for that final mile if I know whether you are coming via the M1 or the A1.

Even though you should not have any airport issues I would still be aiming for a car park arrival time of no later than 8.45 but I would always rather be too early than a minute late due to congestion en route but that's me.

The fly in the ointment is the taxi drivers who have promised a repeat of last weeks action when they brought the airport to a standstill, If they do that again when you travel then you're stuffed as while the alternate route will get you to the car park the car park coaches will be few and far between.

Vueling now have a Canary Island base and are looking to increase from one, the number of based aircraft. Might we therefore see new routes linking Luton to the Canaries for 2017?

runway 08 - yes 2 VLM's in yesterday evening this has been on going for a little while now as they have to swap the aircraft over due to no engineering cover in Waterford.

OK, if you have a sat nav enter Frank Lester Way, Luton. It might well turn you off the A505 at Offley and send you through the lanes, which is great as it will miss the town traffic on the A505. Once you are on Frank Lester Way the long term car park is sign posted on your left.

If you haven't got a Sat Nav keep on the A505 and follow the signs for the airport. When you are about just over half a mile away you will see a large signpost informing you that there is a roundabout ahead. This signpost is called Eaton Green Road Roundabout and will show that the first exit on the roundabout is for Tea Green so take that route.

This will take you on Eaton Green Road where you will pass a Shell petrol station on your right. When you come to the first roundabout turn right and this is Frank Lester Way. Again the long term car park is signposted on your left.

I would come in via Frank Lester Way even if there was no traffic as it is a short cut to the long term car park from your direction.

Hope you have a great time and we all look forward to your reviews of Luton. With that departure time you are traveling at an ideal time as you are between waves.

Luton Airport border chaos as thunderstorm brings down computer system for checking passports

more photos here https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/124606...ing-passports/

I think it is ironic that while no one could get through passport control as checks could not be made that if they had arrived on a back of a lorry with no identification they would have been let in.

Don't think it did but the airport missed the heavy rain that got Dunstable. The airport did make the following statement when someone asked the question.

Contingency lane opened, pumps on standby. Traffic flowing.

A quote from my bother following his recent Luton experience...

"Still can't get over how rammed Luton Airport was when we left. Beyond max capacity in terminal"!

If this has been posted before, please accept my apologies...

However, I have had a newsletter/email from La Compagnie, and it states they are increasing LTN-EWR from 5 to 6 flights a week in June.

Not exactly news that will set the world on fire, but good to see this niche route doing well.
