Vueling/Transavia
So it looks as though both Vueling and Transavia applied for slots for ORY-LTN. Vueling was rejected but Transavia approved.
Not that there is any connection of course, but Transavia is a French airline

Can't see why anyone would want to fly via Turin or Bucharest to get to say Ibiza or Rome.

Transavia either have the slots or would of done some slot moving around to fit LTN rather than apply for LTN I suspect.
Might explain why LGW-CDG was picked and even CDG as a base for Vueling from May.

One flight on a Wednesday blocks an airline from operating a Monday to Friday schedule despite plenty of slots being available on the Thursday and Friday during the peak hour. I assume this would be a weekly charter flight that is the issue.
Red = no slots
Yellow = 1 slot
Green = more than one slot available.

I see an Azerbaijan Airlines aircraft is due in this afternoon. No idea of type but is this the first visit by this airline to Luton? This would be an airline that could be added to potential new airlines to operate schedule services into Luton.
While folk here like to speculate on new airlines or routes it is the unexpected that occurs that no one predicted while wish lists usually don't

Vueling
So Vueling tried and failed to get ORY slots over and above those it succeeded in securing to AMS & BCN from LTN.
Seems they have plans for LTN which makes me wonder where else they might look at - FCO, MAD, FLR perhaps? Such routes could handle a single daily operation and arrive/depart outside of peak times.
It will be interesting to see what Vueling do next

Agree Vueling will be interesting along with what else Transavia try.
Azerbaijan execs are very regular. They have a Gulfstream in the airline livery as well if im not mistaken. They stand out alot.

No, Norwegian announced that they are continuing their partnership with Thomson and Thomas Cook, with more charter flying for them - including a new Cardiff to Tenerife flight. Just a thought that the rumoured Norwegian flying could have been for Thomson from Luton...

It seems that the airport has bought land adjacent to Parkway for a dedicated rail link to the airport. I guess it is starting to look as though it might happen. I have got to hand it to Aena, they certainly have the vision for great things to happen at Luton. They are already pushing for the new East Midland franchise to provide 4 non stop trains an hour taking just 20 minutes from London. That would bring the total trains stopping at the airport from all directions to 20 per hour!!!

Ambitious plans to link Luton Airport and Parkway station by rail have been narrowed down to two final options, the Luton News can reveal.
On Thursday Transport Secretary Patick McLoughlin heralded the potential of Luton Airport, as work on a £110 million redevelopment commenced.
The works will bring about a significant amount of improvements for passengers, but connectivity between the terminal and Parkway station is still seen as a weakness for the airport.
Speaking exclusively to the Luton News, airport chief executive Nick Barton asserted that plans to directly link the two transport hubs by rail remain firmly on track.
He said: “We have two options and we need to resolve which one it will be.
“It’s a question of how you want the airport to be perceived in 15 or 20 years time which drives your decision process today.
“We are just going through that process today.
“Both are excellent solutions, it is a question of choosing which one will be the best.”
In November the airport’s owner, London Luton Airport Ltd, applied to the council for its opinion on whether an environmental impact assessment will be needed for its final proposals.
This ‘screening’ process often takes place before large scale developments which may have significant effects on the environment.
LLAL’s application for an EIA screening opinion centres around Stirling Place, Kimpton Road and the airport– indicating that any rail link will be built to the back of the station.
The Luton News understands that London Luton Airport Ltd has purchased Stirling Place.
On the airport’s vision for the rail link, Mr Barton said: “It’s about a seamless branded journey, those are the words we wrap around it.
“If you choose to come here by train from either north or south, it should be as painless as it can, that’s the objective.
“Adequate is not good enough.”
He added: “It is 42 metres in vertical height between the terminal and the rail line and I think historically that has scared people as they have come to the conclusion that trains just don’t go up hills.
“You can deal with that, they do go up hills.
“People have found 42 metres as being a daunting issue and an excuse to do nothing, we are not of that mind frame, nor are Luton Borough Council.
“There is a very strong desire to resolve it, there is also a very strong business case behind it.”
