British Airways said that flights could start again at the end of October as the winter season begins.
British Airways has abandoned flights to Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh resort "indefinitely" amid terror fears in a blow to the country’s tourism industry.
No flights have operated between the UK and the Red Sea resort since November last year after the bombing of a Russian passenger plane, which killed 224 people.
BA had previously only cancelled flights up until specific dates pending a change in Government advice.

I understand those affected by Addison Lee were protesting outside the Town Hall today.
The airport claimed they run a free and open Tender for a taxi company to be based from the airport, and unfortunately Luton's taxi's were not successful with their bid...
Provided the tender was run freely and honestly I cannot see an issue.
However, the airport is also refusing to allow Hackney Carriage Taxi's to operate from the airport and will be no Taxi pick up zone for these drivers. I can see why the drivers are a little aggrieved on this part.
It almost sounds like the airport is trying to monopolise taxis from there!
It sounds a similar situation to when Greenline were not allowed to operate from the airport and all coaches were exclusively run my National Express to London.
You can only assume by the airport only allowing one taxi company to operate from there, this turns out to quite a nice deal for airport operator.
Does any other airport, ban Hackney Carriage taxis?

'Cut off your nose to spite your face' is the saying. So many, so called 'managers' cannot resist leaving well alone. Upsetting the people who bring you passengers is not so clever.

The protesting drivers promised to bring the airport to a standstill again but it hasn't happened. No doubt a warning was issued that the roads around the airport are private property and as such any driver could be banned from entering the CTA.
The existing taxi rank is going to be moved to allow the drop off zone loop back to be put in that will pass under the footbridge. The replacement taxi rank will be located between the bus station and the drop off zone.
The new taxi rank will be half the size of the old one with a holding area outside the Ibis Hotel. The road there has already been marked up for the last few months as a taxi rank but at the moment is still used by the general public as an unofficial waiting area before they drive into the CTA to pick up.

Looks like the French ATC are causing real problems today.
A/C waiting for available stands as everything is full as at 09.00
Ryanair from Kaunas , Blue air from Turin and Vueling from Barcelona all getting 15 mins plus on the taxiway

Ryanair may of not learned their lesson with Eastern Europe. Wizz jumped on Kaunas straight away when Ryanair stopped it. Could this be the case for Bratislava airport. I would put my money on the next couple of weeks Wizz adding this route from the airport.

Even though VLM discontinued the Waterford service a few weeks ago, it looks like the writing was on the wall, regardless!
VLM Airlines has gone bankrupt
Just hope in the two weeks that the airline stopped the Waterford service and as of yesterday, them going bankrupt, everyone got their money back, who had their tickets cancelled.

We have already held talks about introducing services to Cancún, Orlando and Dubai.
My thinking is possibly Thomson charters to all three destinations, operating weekly and fortnightly?
They are already offering packages to Dubai from other UK regional airports from this winter and flying their own metal to the new Al Maktoum Airport, while Cancun and Orlando are two of their most popular long haul destinations.
But you then have to remember Thomson and Thomas Cook have just started similar long haul routes from down the road at Stansted, so would they really want to launch them from Luton too?
I'd be very surprised to see a direct schedule service to any of these destinations, with the big carriers, as they all seem so Heathrow centric, and happy to pay the crazy prices for slots when they become available.

EU Referendum
Very early I appreciate, but what does the Leave vote do for LTN?
I think this is bad news, I could see EZY actually moving their HQ into Europe with the loss of at least some local jobs. I can't see Wizz bringing forward any further new routes, and their existing network will stagnate or even decline. Economic uncertainty will also put the brakes on any expansion by EZY and FR, and Monarch/Thomson along with other leisure orientated operators will see a fall in demand due to higher prices caused by the £ falling in value.
Anyone more optimistic?

Visited the airport this morning to drop off my mum for the morning easyJet flight to Belfast at 07:00. The traffic leading up to the airport was horrendous with the roundabout at the Holiday Inn gridlocked. She got to the gate with 3 minutes to spare, despite leaving enough time. We were sitting in the traffic on the Airport Way for 20/30 minutes. The problem here is that the road goes into one single lane after the roundabout which is the main cause. But also there is no staff managing the traffic flow, just a security car parked up at the entrance of the mid term car park with the man inside of it texting on his phone.

No one living here is going to be sent home, migration will still continue but hopefully in slower numbers. Luton will still grow but that growth might slow down in a year or two. It would have to slow down anyway as capacity is only 5 million passengers away. If that is the case then so be it.

As AvGeek1 has found out the hard way the airport can't cope with what it has got despite his wish for ever more growth now. Growth rates of around 20% are unsustainable where growth rates of 2-5% per year are.
This gives the airport time to plan and the time to expand rather than trying unsuccessfully to play catch up.
