I think that 2 months into the AA operation it's a bit early to come to such a conclusion; for me it's how well the two carriers do in the lean winter months that will decide whether BHX can sustain more than one daily New York services - notwithstanding the fact that neither operator plans to operate daily during the winter.

Sad to say, airlines (really their shareholders) don't generally give routes adequate time to develop these days so naturally there is always the threat that one or the other might blink.

Flybe winter 2015/6

Flybe seem to have made some adjustments for winter 2015/6 at BHX. Amsterdam remains at five a day (up from last winter). Dusseldorf is up again to five a day (up from last winter) and with a much better spread of flights through the day than initially shown. EDI, GLA and ABZ (now 4 daily on some dates) showing increases. MXP is twice daily weekdays again up on last winter. Saturday STR has disappeared.

DY fares to BCN/AGP/MAD have jumped to 850 return per passenger and TFS/LPA to 1150 return per passenger from November and the same for LPA/TFS at EDI, They have already released some 2016 summer ex BHX so could they be announcing the base, pulling out or just a glitch on the website??

Look beyond November and the lead-in fares are all back down again, the Canaries rise around Christmas, and again in March.

I don't know how the schools half term falls this autumn, but I would suggest that the sky-high fares reflect little more than demand outstripping supply - or as suggested a technology glitch.

It was actually € but in Ł you are paying 350 or 850. Only Flexi fares available.

Where are you seeing these figures. I checked this morning (on the page of promotional fares) and there's nothing like these figures in sight - or there weren't.

Of course, as we well know promotional fares aren't often available when Mr. Average wants to travel, but there's nothing I can see to suggest that DY are about to kill off any routes from BHX.

Or am I missing something?

Take a look at all fares for November, especially the new Canaries flights and all destinations for March, May and June 2016. Outbound in Feb is also very high along with some dates in April but they may be related to the Easter Holidays.

Eye watering.

I booked last week to TFS for the February half-term. Cost Ł1050 for me, wife and 2 kids. Checked today and now twice as expensive. All of the low fare tickets have gone on the outbound (Feb 12th)

Use the fare calendar between November-June and all fares are the same. I would be surprised if they got rid of BHX so perhaps a base and possibly some schedule changes. I know plenty of airlines raise prices so high until they change operational day etc.

Rumours circulating on other forums that a BHX base is happening and even long haul flights are in the offing. Apparently - and this is just what I've read - plans are being finalised and the LGW staff have been informed and anyone who wishes to transfer to BHX can apply to do so.

Hopefully they won't keep us waiting much longer. Very good news for BHX IF this comes off.

Emirates

EK41 airborne on route to BHX, the first of three 77W's from Dubai this Saturday.

Not sure I would have dared suggested that 5 years ago, less so 10 years ago and 15 years ago it would have been a case of a visit from the men in white coats.

It is an incredible jump in capacity even if only 360 seats to start with.

insuindi

KLM was four a week last winter and it is up seat-wise, as the F70 has been replaced by the Embraer 190. In fact only around 32 seats less than today's five flights.

Although as Daza noticed earlier, flybe seem to have decided on 5 flights rather than six to add a bit of sanity. Flybe have also moved the extra Dusseldorf to morning slot ex BHX from the evening timing and I suppose all tied in with the Milan staying at double daily.

Barcelona

Further to Daza's post

Ryanair have increased BHX-BCN this winter from 3 - 5 a week and Monarch have increased it a third time this winter. From weekly to three a week and now showing 4 a week in November (Thu-Sun) and 5 a week in February half term.

It is also showing an increase next summer to six a week from five.

Norwegian fares seem to have returned to normal.

Lufthansa A319 has started on the Munich night-stop taking over from Cityline.

Emirates Press Release

Emirates' Third Daily Service Touches Down at Birmingham Airport

Emirates has launched a third daily service to Dubai from Birmingham Airport, becoming the first airline to offer a direct First Class service to the region.

On board the inaugural flight of this service were passengers originating from more than 15 different cities to Birmingham, including Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, demonstrating Emirates’ global connectivity.

The new daily service between Dubai and Birmingham is operated by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in a three class configuration, offering eight Private Suites in First Class, 42 Business Class seats and 310 Economy Class seats per day, as well as 23 tonnes of cargo capacity per flight. It adds seven more inbound flights a week to Birmingham, increasing passenger and cargo capacity on the route by 42 percent.

Flight EK41 from Dubai arriving into Birmingham Airport at 0705hrs on Saturday 1st August.

Laurie Berryman, Vice President, UK, at Emirates, said: “Birmingham is an important international business hub, and the wider Midlands region is a leading tourist destination. Increasing our capacity in Birmingham will improve the city’s global connectivity and give customers across our network and in the Midlands greater flexibility in their travel plans.

“We are also delighted to be the first airline to offer First Class to the region, with the introduction of our acclaimed First Class Private Suites on board the new third daily service. It is a positive sign for the state of the region’s economy and we are confident that there will be strong demand for First Class services among Birmingham passengers.”

“The introduction of the third daily service to Birmingham is another significant investment in the UK market and we look forward to offering further choice and excellent value for money to travellers and businesses, including the cargo community.”

Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive of Birmingham Airport, said: “This additional service means that passengers have access to more than 1,200 seats daily from Birmingham to Dubai, plus even more choice on Emirates' network of global connections across the Far East, the Middle East and Australasia. We have seen the route grow from strength to strength over the last one and a half decades due to the enormous demand in the Midlands for long haul connectivity so I thank the Emirates team for their commitment to Birmingham and wish them a happy 15th anniversary for later this year.”

Emirates started flying to Birmingham in December 2000 when it launched the route with a daily non-stop service, operated by a 278-seat Airbus A330. The second daily service was launched in 2005 operated by the same aircraft.

Both aircraft were upgraded to Boeing 777s by 2007 and in 2010, the dedicated Emirates Lounge opened its doors at Birmingham Airport for the first time. In the 15 years since operations at Birmingham Airport began, Emirates has carried almost six million passengers to and from Birmingham – 600,000 in the 2014–15 financial year alone.

Emirates flight EK41, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, will depart Dubai International Airport at 0235hrs and arrive in Birmingham at 0705hrs. The outbound flight, EK42, will depart Birmingham Airport at 0910hrs and arrive in Dubai at 1910hrs.

All three cabins are equipped with Emirates’ award-winning ice entertainment system with more than 2,000 channels of on-demand entertainment to choose from, including movies, television programmes, games, audio books and music from across the world.

Those A330s must have been much faster than the B777s of today if both BHX-DXB rotations were operated by the same aircraft.
Is F being offered going into 2016?

As far as we know, the morning flight EK41/42 will revert to a 2class aircraft from Jan.2016.
However lots of speculation and rumor suggesting that at least 1flight may have a 2 class A380 sometime in the new year.Probably the lunchtime EK39/40.

A380-EK

If you pop in to the Flyertalk EK New routes thread it has all the detail on the scheduling of the 2 class aircraft, they are already spoken for.
01 December:
CPH (EK151/152) from daily 2-class B77W daily 2-class A380
BKK (EK376/377) from daily 3-class B77W to daily 2-class A380
01 January 2016:
LGW (EK009/010) from daily 3-class A380 to daily 2-class A380
KUL (EK342/343) from daily B773 to daily 2-class A380
And,the frequent comments here on cargo loads out of BHX preclude, methinks, an early A380.
