As I understand it first class is still bookable until 1st January 2016.
So I guess if bookings pick up then there is time to change it again.
If anyone can confirm this then that would be appreciated.

J636,
Yup looks like 1st class has been binned for a 2 class before it even starts.
On the bright side for the airports thats another 68 economy passengers a flight added in 2 class if they can fill the 3rd
.Its those passengers who spend the money in the airport
Slightly disappointing I suppose that BHX can still not fill 12 seats up front, even at the airports height ie best passenger figures.

A far more likely scenario is that EK have decided to to redeploy the 3 class aircraft allocated to the new BHX service to a proven 3-class market, whereas the BHX is a (very successful) 2-class service. As usual, however all this is pure conjecture as the marketing and sales departments of Emirates aren't about to share their strategies with anyone outside the business.

Yes suppose that possible, however what I can't get my head around is why both EK and BHX have been doing press releases and even TV appearances (only BHX) promoting that the airport is getting 1st class cabins..
If the plan is then binned weeks later and the plane moved elsewhere. Surely EK would have known fleet allocation and known where they needed another 3 class before they made the final BHX announcement ??.
Why not just promote the 2 class from the start ?
I therefore think its more too do with poor bookings after launch, but I'm only an amateur and not in the industry ,so bow to others better knowledge.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a window of opportunity available for the extra service that starts on 1st August. According to Airline Route First Class will be scrapped the following January. So if it's true then there is a chance of 'use it or loose it' for 5 months.
Dubai – Birmingham eff 01JAN16 EK041/042 2-class 777-300ER replaces 3-class -300ER (Previously Airline Route did not specify this flight will be served by 3-class aircraft, in the report filed on 22DEC14)

With all due respect, I really don't understand the obsession with First Class.
It's almost as if by not having it, Emirates is somehow 'insulting' BHX.
FWIW, I have used First Class twice on Emirates B777, both on upgrades as Business was overbooked. I've got to say there was barely any worthwhile difference between the two classes. Certainly not enough for me to even consider paying the difference.
I got the same upgrade on the 380 once, and on that craft there is a worthwhile difference in product to consider paying the difference.
I would also say that since the 2-class 777 carries more pax it is therefore better for BHX as there are more people using the airport, its shops and restaurants etc.
For what is essentially a good news story - an extra flight - it amazes me that some people want to find some kind of negative angle to it.

All names taken
I was thinking the same myself - so what if BHX doesn't have first class available? Perhaps your average Midland business person has more respect for their, and their companies money. There certainly aren't so many people living in the Midlands (or for that matter anywhere outside London) who have more money than sense.
Best thing (aside of the extra passenger capacity) about the third daily being a 777 (rather than a 380) is the additional cargo uplift available.
Bottom line is that people always look for a down side - see historical postings on this thread, and for that matter any other threads!

Agreed, BHX finally gets a third daily and even then it's still not good enough. Regarding the extra cargo capacity I have seen it reported elsewhere that no new cargo space is to be sold and this new flight will be used to mop up all the extra freight lost from other airports.
Even this seemed to be a thinly disguised criticism that BHX didn't have enough cargo demand to warrant a third daily flight. Perhaps I'm wrong but it strikes me that people will always (unfairly) try and look for the negatives.

Chinapattern,
Completely agree but you miss my point.
The only issue I had , was why did they both advertise 1st class in the media then pull it few weeks later.
As you say a 2 class extra flight is excellent ,but why wasn't it just that from the start ?

Nigel;
Completely agreed with everything you said - apologies if you thought otherwise.
I've seen it suggested elsewhere that BHX could be being lined up for service from the x2 class A380 which incidentally comes into service around the same time they cut first class. Plus if no extra cargo space is being sold they won't really be losing out by switching to an A380 either.
Could BHX support x2 777 and a x2 class A380 in 12 months? Who knows? I could however see EK announcing an A380 into BHX if they thought QR were about to make a move. To be fair I'm just happy BHX is getting a third daily flight, anything else is just an added bonus.

currently 2 77W with 428 seats = 1712 seats
Exploring all options:
1 77W with 428 seats + 1 A380 with 617 seats = 2090 seats (22% increase)
2 x 77W with 428 seats + 1 77W with 360 seats = 2432 seats (42% increase)
3 x 77W with 428 seats = 2568 seats per day (50% increase)
2 x 77W with 428 seats + 1 A380 with 617 seats = 2946 seats (72% increase)
The latter option would see BHX have 158 seats per day more than MAN. Far better for BHX to have the 3rd daily now then perform the upgrade now of one of 2 daily services to the A380 if BHX is only ever going to get the 2 class version of it as it would be a long time before that 3rd flight would arise

Ian,
I would have been happy for 2 class from the start. They must have planned everything to come up with the 3 class initially.... still...
Anyway good luck to them with the 3rd service sure it will do well

Chinapattern,Ringwayman,
Thanks for your thoughts and figures, agree best way forward to see if they can fill a 3rd 77W and expand from that.
If another carrier to the region like Qatar or Etihad did show an interest, then can see why EK could dangle an A380 at an earlier stage to try and put them off.
Be interesting to see what happens.

617 seats on an A380 is that what a 2 class one carries? if it`s a 3 class
it`s 517
Just out of interest how many B777 are 2 class as I have totally lost track now as there don`t seem to many that don`t come to Manchester
and all our flights have 1st class
