Bournemouth Airport welcomes new Turkish route with operator OSKA Travel
Bournemouth Airport welcomes new Turkish route with operator OSKA Travel
HOLIDAYMAKERS are being offered the opportunity to fly to Turkey from Bournemouth Airport this spring.
The announcement that tour operator OSKA Travel will be offering flights to Antalya in April comes less than two weeks after Ryanair announced Crete would also be added to their destination list.
Paul Knight, managing director of Bournemouth Airport, said the flights will prove a hit with customers.
“Their holidays are excellent value for money and I’m sure they will prove to be really popular with our passengers.
“We’re looking to provide more options and services for customers using our airport and this will extend our connections further into Europe,” he added.

Didn't Thomas Cook do Turkey from Bournemouth before the Arab spring occurred in Tunisia, Libya and Egpyt in 2011 thereby restricting/curtailing its operations at Bournemouth?

Bournemouth handled 21 , 260 passengers in January up 39 % on last year
Ryanair figures
Alicante 2458 154 passengers
Malaga 2588 144 passengers
Arrecife 1084 108 passengers
Las Palmas 682 85 passengers
Tenerife 935 117 passengers
Thomson figures
Turin 1359 170 passengers
Arrecife 1379 172 passengers

Tenerife 3128 174 passengers
Dublin saw an average of 27 passengers per flight and Easy Jet saw 5456 an average of 119 passengers on a mix of A319 / 320 a/c
Looking at the summer , and good news is Ryanair have added another flight to Palma for the whole season taking it to a daily service !
Gerona also sees another flight added for the summer taking it to daily except Tuesday
In total there are now 44 flights a week ( 43 last 2 yrs ) and 47 during the month of August , great news considering how other UK airports have seen a cut in Ryanair flights

Thomson seem to be quite a bit stronger on the canaries routes, although FR did put their winter routes from BOH on sale quite late. Good to see AGP/ALC doing fairly well, I'd expect they might get a frequency increase assuming they return for W14/15 as Flybe are dropping their SOU-ALC/AGP routes at the end of September. Likewise assuming nobody fills the gap BOH may do rather well on the Spanish routes next summer!

Another nail in Bournemouth's coffin? I have just found out that the shuttle to the train station has closed! The bus service runs every 90 minutes this is unsatisfactory. Our flight from Dublin gets in at around the time that the bus leaves and the next one is 90 minutes later! What is this about? Is there a taxi share system in operation.

Bournemouth airport has a government agreement to provide the shuttle bus hourly between 7am-7pm daily. I believe it is a 10 year agreement. Whoever the provider is doesn't really matter - but it can't change from hourly.

The company that ran the dedicated shuttle service lost the contact with the airport and has been replaced by a new company.
The airport's own website now shows a rubbish random service with gaps of up to 1 hour 40 minutes. It isn't even a service dedicated to airport passengers and staff and is more like a shoppers service that just happens to call in at the airport and now takes almost twice as long to get to the station.
Bournemouth has got to be one of the worst airports in the country for public transport links.

Dear customers,
As of 19.00pm today, 15th November 2013 The A1 Bournemouth Airport Shuttle Service will be operated by Yellow Buses. The new time table as of 16th November 2013 can be found at:
A1 Route Map, Timetables and Fares
The service has been run by Discover Dorset Ltd, a small independent, locally owned bus operator from Bournemouth since the 7th of November 2007. After 6 Years, 2180 Days and 30,520hrs of operation Discover Dorset were unsuccessful in their bid to run the service for the next five years on behalf of the Manchester Airport Group.
With our dedicated team of Ambassadors and a neat crisp timetable, the service grew to be a well used direct link from Bournemouth to Bournemouth Airport and we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all our customers and staff who have, over the last 6 years made the service such a success.

It's a Dorset thing not to have decent roads to places that really matter, look at the A338, if an accident occurs the police close the road and no-one can get anywhere quick.
As for bus timings, there's no point in having a bus laid on when there's no planes flying, common sense really, and changing the contract means that you can use the local season ticket on it and get into work a lot cheaper and not just to the airport but to the industrial estate too. It's full on the morning/evening run.

Ryanair have added for the month of August 2 extra flights a week to Faro taking it to 5 a week
This is in addition to the extra flights already announced in previous posts , really good news for the summer which should be one of the busiest Ryanair summers at Bournemouth since the they had 2 aircraft based many years ago !
The Turkey charters to Antalya in April are selling well with the first flight already sold out
