Competing on the FAO route with Flybe......shame they couldn't do a "new" route to a destination not currently served. The loads have been great with BE this year.
I wonder if this is why the BE schedules for next year have not been announced yet......

That's such a shame as the BE loads were really good to FAO and imagine they have built up their "regular" flyers to the Algarve. Maybe they would compete against FR, who knows.....where else would be suitable for BE ? Some French routes would be great like EGC, BOD or NCE or maybe even try the Balearics as they do these from EXT & SOU but then that would mean competing against VY on the PMI sector. Always remember MJV having high loads in the BMI baby days. Time will tell I suppose.
On another note, I cant see any mention of a Greek route for FR as previously stated. Is there more to come from them ??

Athens is on CWL's hotlist according to the route shop. Maybe they will try there? Although given that frequencies have reduced across the islands I wouldn't be surprised to see Chania or Corfu appear.

Yeah there has been a drop in Greek destinations over the years and I'm sure CHQ or CFU would fit in well for FR......
It would not be surprising to see another announcement from FR (hopefully).....maybe Summer 2017 will be a great one for CWL.
On another topic, I've had an email from Cobalt saying no plans to commence CWL yet but still on their list of destinations.
Maybe Cyprus be a good destination for FR ?

FR vs BE
The management at Cardiff aren't the brightest cookies in the jar are they? First they allow Flybe to compete with Stobartair on Dublin, and what happens next? - no Stobartair. Now in come Ryanair on FAO and how are Flybe supposed to sustain their service against the vastly superior economics of the 738? Growth has to be sustainable and the way developments in Cardiff are being managed, it's little wonder airlines approach with caution.

Totally agree with you, they should be looking after BE.
Same happened with CityJet v Flybe.
They need to get the routes that are not already operated but compete against BRS and not those of airlines already at CWL !!!

No you are absolutely right, an airport can't refuse anyone outright, the best they can do is put them at the back of the queue for the better facilities and refuse them discounts.
In the big picture though who is more likely / more capable to deliver the big passenger volumes long term - FlyBE or Ryanair? so it's a tough choice for an aiport managment.

I think this can work for BE and FR. Given BRS has 23 weekly flights the last week of Sept, there must be enough Welsh passengers using them services to warrant FR starting from CWL. FR know where their passengers come from. I doubt CWL would jeopardise the BE operation given the investment in it. I don't think it's the last we'll get from FR though, but maybe more in 2018.

Given that there is a market for business as well as leisure travel through CWL I would chose FlyBe over Ryanair every time. Not for passenger numbers, but for longer term sustainability.

I think BE will stay on the route for extra operational days providing more choice for CWL passengers.
Not sure when the BE Summer 2017 schedule will be released but i bet that it's pretty soon. Seen elsewhere that VY have secured an additional 4x A320 for next Summer, I wonder whether this will be aimed at fixing the problems that they've had this Summer, or expanding at BCN/ALC. If the latter i'd expect more CWL rotations to come our way.

Ryanair
caardiff's point about the number of Faro flights from Bristol is certainly relevant not only in that, as he points out, Ryanair would know the proportion of its passengers with Wales addresses but they would also be aware that some people living in Wales use easyJet from BRS to FAO. No doubt Ryanair are hoping to attract some of these to its CWL flights without diluting its own BRS services too much.
The same applies with Newquay - where as with South Wales, at least a million people from Devon and Cornwall use BRS (CAA stats) - which has also been given a 2 x weekly FAO service for next summer to add to its current Ryanair services to Alicante and Hahn.
Looking at the Ryanair summer 17 timetable, although BRS-FAO remains at once daily the extra flights that were added in the peak months (12 weekly in August) are not shown for summer 2017 - yet anyway, some were added later for summer 16. It may be that they have in effect been transferred to CWL and NQY.

The flight which is still to view on the mobile app is Grenoble. It has been there since either Rugby World Cup or the last six nations where Ryanair operated a flight for French rugby fans.
