I ask this question about APD in view of the following statement by Tartin Tom on the Jet2 thread.
The key phrase to note from HMRC is:
Note: If any selection criteria, for seating passengers in the premium cabin or seating, involves extra cost to the passenger for that benefit or the possibility of selection has been offered or advertised prior to the decision to select them, then the operator is deemed to have created more than one class of travel on that aircraft and those passengers are liable for APD at the standard rate.
i.e. if the airline charges extra for the legroom seat then the standard and not the lower rate applies in their eyes.

When TOM 1st planned the extra legroom seats it was going to be given a special name & would include comp drinks etc, but that would then have put it in a different class of service attracting the higher rate of APD, so have reverted to just selling them as extra space like they currently do with no increase in APD.
The postings on the Jet2 thread about APD are simply wrong. Extra legroom in itself does not constitute a higher class of travel attracting the higher APD rate unless the seat pitch exceeds 40". If you have a separate class of travel with a cabin divider and/or other service differentiators, then it might be an extra class. However, as with Monarch's seats, the Thomson extra legroom seats don't get whacked with the higher APD rate.

I cannot help but smile when people on this thread refer to Dreamliner. No aircraft in a Charter Airline by any stretch of the imagination could be referred to as a Dreamliner. Just remind me of the pitch in inches

This is more than what Virgin and BA will be offering as well as most other scheduled airlines are offering too.
They will have a 9 abreast config in economy, the same as both BA and Virgin plan to operate and what most other scheduled airlines are offering in their economy cabins on this aircraft type. Hope that clears a few things up for you.

I would suggest "the gypsy" is simply being a little snobbish, I have found it best to judge each aircraft type and seat layout on it merits regardless of Loco/schedule/charter. Tom long haul product is actually very decent in economy in general, especially when compared to Virgin/BA economy. Thomas Cook on the other hand have recently put a load of extra seats in their A330's thus reducing seat pitch massively.
Emirates Business class product is a good example, Within the fleet there is a huge variance. Most have lie flat, some don't, 70% hace Ice digital widescreen IFE, 30% don't. I just pray I get a newer 777 on Man - DXB.

Going back to the seating on 757s, basically it sounds like its reverting to the system that FCA used on their A321's a few years back, first 4 rows of a/c extra leg room with comp drink, maybe extra bag allowance? Sold as prem seating back then.

Just recieved a monthly e-mail from Thomson Airways with the heading
Would someone please tell Thomson Airways that they do not fly from Blackpool.

Are they advertising "THOMSON FLIGHTS" or just flights ? You have to remember Thomson are not just an airline / holiday company that sell their own product, they are a travel agent and do sell other companies flights and holidays. A few years ago I went to our local Thomson high street shop and they booked me a holiday to Tenerife using a Thomas Cook package deal !!

The e-mail is from Thomson Airways headed 'Top Flights from Blackpool'. I could understand it if the e-mail had come from Thomson Holidays.
However, nowhere in the e-mail does it offer any flight from Blackpool Airport, indeed Blackpool is not even listed in the 'departure airports' in the drop down menu under 'book a flight'.

752 G-OOBI is sat at CWL doing nothing, it has been like this for two days now. I have read that BI is being used as a backup a/c, so I presume it will stay there until in need at another base? Only reason I mentioned this is because I thought TOM would have ferried it to MAN or LGW to be remotely parked. Any thoughts?
