BOAC4ME

I think the key though is something that boeing eng mentioned, since the collapse of certain Airlines and Tour Ops, many customers who were "self packaging" and as a result were often flying on a LOCO as part of their quest for cheaper cost suddenly felt a little exposed and as a result have decided to go back to a large Tour Op such as TUI, Tommy Cook and Monarch in order to feel more protected, this I think has played a big part in the resurgent "Old Fashioned" package holiday, and therefore as a result has increased load factors on the Airlines owned by those Travel giants over the past couple of years.

I am sure you are spot on with that summary. I hope it lasts.

19 hour delay at Glasgow

Anyone know more about the big delay on TOM215 inbound Glasgow from Antalya today? Scheduled at 0310 this morning, estimating 2238 tonight. Just tech or subcharter?

Looked into reserving seats on my flight to Greece in late August, went on to the reservation system, and all the seats on the front 2/3's of the 733 where unavailable.

Seems strange as normally people would reserve seats in random locations and not uniformly. (I think the systems lying to scaremonger seat booking) Would anyone be able to tell me whether I should book seats for my partner and I or just wait to I get to the airport, I should be arriving early.

Cheers

The system is not trying to scaremonger anyone. These seats will be reserved for those people who pre-book hot inflight meals plus PRMs and those that will already have pre-booked. Passengers who have purchased meals for the flight will be given the chance to pre-book seats in the forward areas as well as exit row seats. Those who have chosen not to will have the rest of the aircraft plus the over wing exits to choose from where space is available. Thomson along with other similar carriers will also keep certain seats towards the front blocked off regardless for PRMs. As the 'Together seating' is given as an option at the time of booking, sometimes a year in advance, more seats are blocked off than you would probably expect so to be able to guarantee those customers this service as still not everyone will go online to choose a specific seat prior to check-in.

I personally would recommend pre-booking your seats, as if you prefer a window or an aisle seat you will not be able to request one at check-in unless your flight has lots of spare seats (very unlikely in August!), as almost all seats will be pre-assigned before the opening of check-in desks, to aid those passengers who have paid extra to sit together and avoid dissappointment to the majority of bookings.

Just out of interest regarding a/c, which airport will you be flying from?

Hope this helps

The AEU aircraft covering TOM flights at EDI was tech for a few days, so GLA B757 has been covering EDI flights Sun-Tue. Sun/Mon flights operated from GLA, instead of EDI

Thanks for the indepth reply Cazza_fly! I'll stop being a Scrooge and cough up the extra thirty quid!

We're flying out of LGW. And I believe Thomson only have 3 733's in their fleet, ones an ex continental aircraft dating from '95 and another was with Buzz at some point and dates from '97/98. Don't know the details of the third.

No problem. Yep there's now just two 733s in the fleet 1 @ DSA and 1 @ LGW, G-THOP (1998) and G-THOO (1999). The latter is the one probably in the best condition cabin wise if last year is anything to go by, though they are both looking very tired inside compared to TOMs 738 fleet. They both still do their job well though so have a good trip!

Based Aircraft Summer 2012

Does anyone have info for summer 2012. DUB in particular.

DUB has to be 738 or bigger. Will it be leased from sunwing again. As for BFS, SSH not returning next year so will it be back to A320.

Cheers Cazza, and I'm sure I've been in aircrafts in worse condition! As long as it's well maintained mechanically (of which I have no doubt) and not too rickedy, I'm sure we'll be fine!

The EDI operation is operated by a Astraeus B757 with Astraeus Crew. Unless it goes tech & TOM aircrafts steps in.

In all fairness TSR2 as like all these things that involve stats, there are different ways to spin them and I should think that there would probably be certain trend areas that may well back up at least some of what you are saying.
The June pax figures for MAN makes interesting reading.

Total Terminal Pax - Up 4.15% on June 2010

Charter Pax June 2011 - Down 6.52% on June 2010

Charter Pax Rolling Year - Down 4.94% on previous year

Charter Pax Rolling Year - 29.04% of total pax.

It is difficult to argue that Charter is not unfortunately in decline.

It partly depends on how you count the figures. It's very hard with airlines like Jet2 and Monarch to draw the line between scheduled and charter.
