I have the feeling that past EI managment really missed the boat on routes and aircraft. The move to all airbus was in some ways a good one, however the need for a medium haul aircraft was over looked when looking at the transatlantic routes. There might be problems filling an A330 on all routes but the 757 has proved very popular for Continental, Delta and US Airways. If EI had the benefit of hindsight when open skies became a reality and obtained a fleet of 75's we might be looking at a very different picture!
Can anyone remember when EI left Newark and what the loads were like on that route. I know there was a difference of a few years, but Continental seem to fill their 75's on that route. Can you fill an A330? Or is there any fom of 321 that do the TA routing from DUB to east coast usa?

An island of 6 million, that's a strong base
Comparing DUB-EWR with EI vs CO is apples vs pears. One is an Irish airline flying from Ireland to New Jersey, t'other is connecting Dublin and Shannon into their main hub with connectivity right across the USA.

I kind of had that idea in my head. Im not trying to start an argument, just baffled at the 75 years of Aer Lingus and it has 4 routes from Dublin and 2 from Shannon to show for it!

EI-ORD
Farewell to an old friend; it looks like EI-ORD, which has been at Bordeaux since mid-February, will not be returning to EI service. Reports have cited "maintenance" issues; other reports suggest it might be broken up there.

EI-ORD is scheduled to be ferried from BOD to GWO on March 29th, where it is to be scrapped.

In relation to the idea that they were doing 4 retro liveries. I would guess that this stemmed from a pic that was first posted about 4 years ago which showed 4 A320s different liveries. I have seen this referenced as 'the plan' However image was merely a doodle by a guy on the modified airliners forum. I even saw it featured in a youtube clip as what was in store.
As of 10 months ago EI were looking at 1-2 A320 and possibility a repaint of an A330 during winter MX. Sadly this was reduced to only 1 A320.
Spotted this on another forum-
Video now on youtube of the delivery of EI-DVM in the retro livery:

When Aer Lingus reported there full year profits they said they planned to sell a A330. Is that plan gone since EI-ORD was scrapped or will they cut routes so they can still sell one and bring the fleet down to 6. Currently all A330 being used.
From March 27:
1 A330 - SNN (used everyday)
1 A330 - IAD (used everyday)
5 A330 - DUB (used everyday except one on Wednesdays)

Aer Lingus at Newark
The difference between Aer Lingus and Continental at Newark is that Aer Lingus was flying an A330 year round whereas Continental, now United, flies one B757 in winter and 2 in summer. This gives much more flexibility to suit the variable market

The World Airways MD-11 (N-272WA) never operated to EWR. It only operated SNN to JFK as EI 111 six days a week and on a Tues to BOS as EI135. The MD-11 was initially hired in as a wet lease in 1998.
The British Caledonian L10-11 (G-BBAF) operated to EWR as EI 107 DUB-SNN-JFK in '96 (hybrid B.Cal A.Ling colours) and then DUB-SNN-EWR in '97 (full 'Lingus colours).
The L 10-11's reliability in '97 was so poor that it spent more time on the ground than in the air and was the cause of many MANY cancellations that summer. The following summer schedule was supplemented by the MD-11. An A330 operated the DUB-SNN-EWR from summer '98 til EI wrapped it up in 2002.

Muller deserves it given the fact he has turned the airline around and shaped a future path for the airline. Prior to his arrival it was only a matter of time until it folded under pressure from RYR and others. My worry is that he will be snapped up by Lufthansa or Air Berlin....his performance at EI hasn't gone unnoticed in Germany.

@pwalhx:
You do realise the the EI livery stands out in nearly every airport they serve. The green top is quite different to the mostly white top liveries of other carriers.
I for one don't think that 'bland' is the correct description.
