It is positive and most welcome but do you mean EI are actually going to use airbridges again or do we check in T2 and walk to D etc?

Its usually flights to Barcelona, Berlin, Geneva, London (LGW & LHR), Malaga, Zurich etc... & all Transatlantic flights (even though MCO has not used them on a few occasions) use airbridges....

I have no doubt the ''experience'' the DAA are talking about is using airbridges too.

T2

As far as I am aware, all EI flights will depart/arrive at T2.
How would checking in a T2 and departing/arriving from "D" gate be any improvement from the present situation?

They would have to bus pax between the two, a real step backwards

EI have more aircraft based in DUB than there are 'jet bridges' at T2 so I'm guessing that there MIGHT be some 'bussing' of passengers around the place particularly in the morning with AA, DL, CO and EY arriving as well. Not sure how many remote/hard stands there are in T2. Maybe there will be enough of them combined with the jet bridges????

I sort of assumed one could walk between T2 and T1 airside, like so many other airports. If that's the case then perhaps EI flights that don't fit on Pier E could use Pier B?

Largest users of DUB are FR and EI. Can we assume the demographics of a typical EI customer is more profitable in terms of consumption on food, beverage and retail in the commercial area than a typical FR pax? Based on what some are saying the airport experience of those using T2 can only encourage a higher spend by those waiting for their flight.

No need for busses

AFAIK, T1 and T2 are connected airside, via what was the "C" pier. So, passengers checking in in T2 to get a flight from the formerly A or D piers would walk past the two T1 security checks and B pier.

T2

Anybody got any idea how far is it from T2 to "D" gates and how long should be allocated to walk it?
It takes a couple of minutes for the aircraft to taxi there.

Walking Distance From T2

Interesting points raised about checking in at T2 and actually boarding aircraft in the old terminal... However, if that were to be the rule rather than the exception, it would in some ways negate the whole purpose of moving into T2 in the first place.

Having pulled into Pier D a few evenings back, it's quite a walk alone through Passport Control and through to arrivals - about 7-8 minutes when walking very briskly...

I would imagine that the walking time from T2 to the ''D'' gates would easily be 10-15 minutes - that's walking at a fairly solid pace.

Furthermore, if passengers have to walk some distance into the old terminal, they may be tempted to move on their way to at least some distance towards the assigned departure gate... That could well damage business for the new outlets set to open in T2..

I believe that the new Aer Lingus lounge is set to be a significant improvement on the current one - which to be fair isn't all that bad at all. Apparently the overall lounge size will be significantly larger, with a more modern dynamic.

Aer Lingus, being the anchor tenant are also going to gain a significant amount of the fixed advertising space across the airport.

A quick and dirty measurement on Google Earth suggests 1.4 KM from the end of pier D to the end of the new pier E.

I think you will find, now that EI have their own terminal, they will relinquish their standing objection to FR having exclusive use of pier D. I would imagine that even though EI will be primarily based in 2 they will also have first dibs on pier B for the overflow. The devil is in the detail as they say.

Anyone know when EI will be selling winter U.S flights from the airports served by EI regional. Still nothing on sale from CWL for this winter except DUB & ORK.

T2 Rant

What a load of old school legacy carrier tunnel vision non competitve crap!!!!! Aer Lingus's new terminal!!!! Since When!! Hello reality check. Other airlines do exist that are using the new terminal. EY was actually the first to sign up. Now there is a proper airline that knows what standards and sevices are, not sum passed its prime two bit dot com failed national carrier that operates longhaul too only ONE country!!!

DL/AF/AA/US/AC etc will all be using it not to mention what ever old rust buckets that the DAA can bribe to use Dublin.

It must be fantastic to live and work on planet Aer Lingus in nice big tall ivory towers. Remember Sabena/Swisair etc etc, the clock is ticking...loudly I hope!!!

T2

Well its fairly obvious who you work for, although I am not an EI employee, I fully support them moving to T2.
FR are welcome to the exclusive use of the D area gates, even if they are above the standard MOL requires for the dreadful Customer Care he dishes out to his passengers. Did you not see the report in "Which" this month?, you should focus on how to get your airline off the bottom, not ranting against EI.

Calm yourself to a frenzy mon ami. Exactly how does your beloved Etihad manage to afford to do that I wonder? Level playing field my arse! I'm sure that over time, Aer Lingus and T2 will be something to be proud of,

I don't think pier D or even A gates are an option from the new T2 but the pier B gates are I believe to be used as part of the Aer Lingus deal.
