Please don't tell me that using the B gates will mean the lounge will be retained... The Gold Circle lounge in Dublin is pretty much the worst I've ever been in. Maybe Lanzarote was worse, but that's about it. It should be a source of embarrassment that the Jack Lynch Lounge in Cork is way better than anything on offer in the country's largest airport.

Just because the B gates will continue to be used by EI does not absolutely mean that the lounge will be retained with no new replacement - although who knows at the moment what EI will do with the space, especially considering that the Crew Ops centre is right next door to the current lounge...

My understanding is that a new lounge is indeed going ahead for EI, larger than the existing one and with a much more modern interior.

The B Gates would be quite an acceptable walking distance from T2 and shouldn't be too much hassle at all.

It's totally unfair to say the Gold Cicle lounge in DUB is the worst you've ever been in - you must be basing this assumption on a limited number of lounges - I could name several that I would rate far below the GCL in DUB, several of these being significantly newer also!

Personally, I have limited experience in ORK and the lounge there but I certainly have never noticed anything in the new terminal or the lounge that was in any way outstanding. Indeed, there is always an eerie lack of activity at ORK in my experience, but that's heading away from the point of focus...

Regards,

There's a very limited selection of food and drink. The lounge is dark. You have to pay for internet access. How's that for a start?

I haven't been into masses of lounges (off the top of my head, 4 in Schiphol, 3 in Heathrow, Dublin, Cork, CDG, Faro, Lanzarote, Hong Kong), but that's a large enough selection that you shouldn't really be coming out near the bottom. If EI wants connecting passengers, it will have to be improved a huge amount; the BA lounge in Heathrow and KLM lounge in Schiphol are what they are competing against.

It must be some time since you've been in the lounge. I've been there several times in the past two months and I completely disagree.

With clear views out onto the apron and of course Rwy Ops on 28/10, there is plenty of light coming into the lounge. There has been a very wide range of food and drink (both alcoholic and softdrinks) any time I've been in there. In the mornings in particular they have various items on offer that are a mix from the T/A Business Class breakfast and the standard Irish Breakfast on European operations. You don't have to pay for internet access - proceed to the lounge desk where you can get an Eircom Wireless card that can be scratched off to reveal a Wireless code...

The BA lounge comparisons in Heathrow are not a fair comparison, especially if you are talking in terms of T5.. That is a purpose built terminal for BA and so they have had a free run in relation to the design of the lounges, in terms of space occupied etc.

I agree that several improvements need to be made, but it's not near as bad as you make it out to be.

Also the Jack Lynch Lounge in Cork (Used by Aer Lingus) is something i think both the CAA & DAA where prowd off, hence the T2 lounge stance...

It was designed around natural lighting, and the (Gold Circle) Business Traveller....

Anybody know when EI Dublin to UK Provincial routes will be loaded for next summer. London has already been available to book for a number of weeks at least.... I am trying to book BHX to MCO but can't book to Dublin ex BHX.. Same for MAN GLA BRS.... Are EI not planning to fly to or from the provinces next summer?? Anybody know any good Websites for Consol fares to the States?

I know in the past that people have criticised Aer Lingus for the poor inflight entertainment but have to say I found the new(ish) system great. Was on an A330 flight from Malaga and was well impressed at the huge choice. The flight from Malaga was less than 3 hrs but still great the entertainment was available. I could have watched 4 of the movies and there was some great TV and music too. Makes a big difference from the last time going to USA and the single screen in the aisle and you had to watch the movie when they wanted to show it.

WOuld it cost alot to fit seatback TV on some of the aircraft that could be used on longer routes - Canaries, Rome, Athens etc?

Incorrect surname

Some of you will probably remember that my flight to Cork was cancelled back in May due to the volcanic ash.

I have rebooked the flight but Aer Lingus have incorrectly spelt my name by one letter. The advisor told me that as the spelling mistake is only one letter an ‘O’ instead of a ‘U’, this is ok. I am worried that I will turn up at the airport and denied boarding because one letter of the surname is wrong, any suggestions?

Thanks.

Aer Lingus will apparently be repainting an A320 in the 1960s colour scheme, to celebrate its 75th anniversary, next May.

There are reports doing the rounds that Dublin Aerospace have picked up the base maintenance contract for 12 of the Aer Lingus A320's. The remainder of the fleet will still go to Technics in Bordeaux.

Funny how things go full circle...

I think you'll be fine, last summer I flew LHR-ORK with someone and their name had two mistakes so I rang up straight away and was told it would be fine but closer to the date I decided to call again and was told that they allow a certain amount of mistakes and that it should be no problem. I was still a bit nervous but both flights went by without anyone saying a word about it.

Aer Lingus H1 Traffic Numbers

The first indication of the H1 performance for Aer Lingus is out this morning and as expected with a continually weak environment and of course the Volcanic ash crisis which caused huge disruption have affected passenger numbers.

RTÉ Business: Aer Lingus numbers down 10% in H1

Although, the positive factor is that the overall load factor improved by 1.5 points to 75.5%, which is a solid indicator that the new strategy by Aer Lingus of focusing on profitable and viable routes, along with trimming capacity to meet demand is indeed working.

I'm guessing noone told you about the routes being slashed and others having their capacity cut then? Or about passenger numbers continuing to decline? Or that the cost-cuts agreed with unions aren't enough and they'll be imposing further cuts in a few months?

Not trying to be pessimistic, I know things have improved for Aer Lingus, but things aren't as rosey as you think...

It's amazing that the main competitor in the market isn't having to do the same?

Spring/Summer Routes

Does anyone have any idea when the EI routes for Spring/Summer 2011 will be released? Will there be any new routes that we know of from Belfast?

Is there any hope at all that Aerlingus would put back on 2 flights a day on the Cork - Paris route for the winter ? A forlorn hope I suppose... I am (though "was" is probably more accurate now !) in with a chance of some work in Paris - it's a 5 day week job, for which the current timings are of little use. If only we had timings like the Cork-Amsterdam service....

Virgin seems to have sub leased a number of slot pairs to EI from Heathrow so is this another set of routes set to open up.

racedo

that's very interesting news re additional slots for the winter, one would imagine that the Dublin/Heathrow route would warrant an increased frequency given that Dublin had lost 2 daily slots pairs for Shannon and then bmi virtually cut their schedule in half so may be demand or perhaps Belfast will get the 4th daily flight for the winter?
