As I've mentioned before, I've heard rumours that ASW are about to get some competition on the NQY-LGW corridor. I'd love to see that's the case!

This might be very old news (had my head buried in the sand for a while), but I heard in Spring that Jet2 were deciding whether to sell their Gatwick slots to FlyBe or launch their own NQY - Gatwick service.

Sorry if this is old news. If it is, does anybody know what happened to Jet2's Gatwick slots?

Jet2's Gatwick slots for Newcastle- Gatwick were bought by Flybe to do the Newcastle to Gatwick service.

is there really sufficiant customers to warrent another operator flying NQY-LGW ?

currently we have 4x WOW (Winter) / x5 (summer) using dh8-300

1 x BA using 737-300/500 /A320

wouldnt of thought that it needed more flights but im willing to be proved wrong!

unless someone is trying to either get WOW or BA off the route ?

Booking engine shows BHD - AMS. Good news if correct although a little strange so soon after dumping BHD - CDG. Also AMS will be in competition with Aer Lingus and Easyjet from BFS so fares will need to be cheap.

Bhd-Ams

Flights are not direct, when you put in example dates it offers connecting flights. Dates that I selected in Aug offered flights via Exeter outbound and via Southampton Inbound.

Think it would be madness to offer this as a direct service. Prices are very uncompetitive too, esp as flights are not direct...

Q400 Payload/Range

Further to this post; http://www.pprune.org/forums/airline...ml#post3618212 I hear that flights between EDI and EGC continue to suffer payload/range problems on this route. Does anyone know why tech stops are sometimes needed? The a/c specs I've seen would indicate that this route should not present a problem for a Q400.

I notice on the BE website today whilst looking for winter flts between LGW and GCI that all flights eff. from the winter timetable are to be operatd by Q400. To make up for the loss of the capacity on the 146 (approx. 30 seats per rotation) they are to provided an additional weekday rotation. Personally it doesn't bother me on a 40 - 50 minute flight but I know the reason alot of islanders use the flybe service because they operate a jet and BE have used this as a marketing tool for many years. We will probably see the real competition start on the route as apart from the exec. lounge at GCI this is the only advantage they have over GR, where GR still offers free hold baggage, a free coffee and a snack and the fares on pretty much on par with BE and from experience less likely to cancel your flight. So it seems as from the winter there will be no commercial airline operating a jet service to/from the island for the first time in many years I beleive.

I hate the way they've done their timetable on the website you have to put in specific destinations and dates rather than just selecting your departure airport and bringing up all the destinations and times.

I see BES has been dropped for the winter from EXT this year but EGC is still staying 2x a week.
