that rumor has been doing the rounds in glasgow for over a year now.
although a rumour that loganair would swap from a BA franchise to a flybe franchise also did the rounds for a few years, and look whats happened there.

This one has been going about for a while, mostly its tied to the rumours of who is going to buy its big sister because everyone assumes that either lufty or virgin are going to try and offload regional and baby (they don’t really fit with their models)

Jim French has set his stall out pretty clearly that he wants a fleet of two types, the EMB 195 and the Q400, so presumably where the EMB195 doesn't fit, they will use a Q400.
This is going to happen in Guernsey pretty soon when the last active 146 moves out.

if virgin get their mitts on BMI, then the first thing Richard Branson will do is sell off regional as it's in direct competition with his choo-choo trains. wouldn't be suprised if JF tries to gets hold of Regional as he has always wanted to run 'scotland's airline'.
all the expansion that Regional planned last year has come to nothing. all those E170's never turned up. could be time for a change of owner.

What is it with this airline and its Belfast flights, every couple of months an incident.

Surely the same would apply to baby? A fair bit of regional's traffic competes with the ECML (LBA etc), whereas baby's BHX to Scotland routes have to be a far more serious challenge to Virgin, and baby must push more domestic volume than regional.

Ok Redwings........i've taken the 'pepsi challenge' and compared that dash and the 145 on three routes of approx 270nm, 520nm, and 700nm.
When you compare the flight times and fuel burns you can't get away from the fact that both aircraft have a similar break-even / cost index.........but the dash can carry 60% more passengers. (I'd love to post the figures here but suspect commercial sensitivity.)
Flybe are desparate to get a common workforce on it's bulk routes........basically 145 pilots are needed on the dash fleet now.
One of these types has got to go, the cost savings of operating one type are obvious........there is no "niche market".
The 145 is a great aircraft and certainly NOT a gas guzzler.......but the dash is an accountants wet dream!

I've heard similar rumours, all from very unreliable sources it must be added! I'm sure fleet incompatibility or not, Flybe would love the chance to get their filthy paws on another portion of the UK domestic market, but surely competition people wouldn't allow it anyway? Fingers crossed anyway

Like I say if you are selling 50+ seats (at proper fares not £1 tickets) then dash is in its own zone except daft routes like MXP!
Well will be finding out more about it soon!! Unless they sell the 145 fleet to BMI regional as rumour has it

How about buying BMIR for the routes and hangarage space at ABZ. Flybe already have knowledge of E145 use but also I presume the knowledge of how to sell them. I also believe there is a gap for Flybe to operate a mid size jet for the less dense business routes. So convert the options for E190 to E170 common fleet I believe. That should keep everyone happy.

It might well come to pass, but not anytime soon, bmir is good for slot protecting at LHR over the winter period. Looking at the winter timetable it seems to me that at least 6 of bmir Embraers are slot watching (LBA,ABZ&4@LHR) meanwhile 2 Airbus are working for baby up at MAN (321&319) and baby will have had 3 737-300 delivered in August, i travelled with them to the MED last Tues from MAN and back into EMA and they were all 95%+full. so all in all i can't see why bmi would move anything in Flybe direction, but full credit to JF and BA's dosh for turning around an airline that seemed to be on life support only a few years ago and a good call on going with the dash & 195, i think once things settle down they can put the fear of god up Ryanair aswell

I would like to add another area where the dash is in “Its own zone”.
Namely the number of catastrophic undercarriage failures.
