dope05, why don't you quit flying the list of A/C you just mentioned and take a crash course in management. I think they would love someone like you.

I can't believe some of the posts in this thread.

The failure of AZ is not because of the pilots or flight attendants. Management runs the company, and has apparently failed to keep it profitable. Everyone especially management always blames it on the pilot's. They use the false image of them working 10 hours a month for a million dollars a year surrounded by beautiful women at exotic destinations with crazy lay-over parties to turn the uninformed public against them with jealousy, as can be witnessed here in this thread.

But one thing that shocks me even more is the AIRLINE PILOTS that are posting in this thread wishing demise and posting comments such as "no sympathy, you did it to yourselves, good riddance". UNBELIEVABLE. Absolutly no solidarity between pilots. Nothing more then jealousy. You should all be siding with the Italian pilots and wishing them the best. T&Cs are falling throughout the whole industry, and you support it??!!

Look at what happened in the U.S! The industry and flying profession... I mean JOB, has been reduced to a steaming heap. I wish we had guys like these Italian pilots in the U.S, maybe this industry would still have some reward left in it. Coming from a less then 18,000$ a year F/O with a U.S Airline, goodluck, stand your ground, and remember that every inch you give them, you will never get back. Good luck guys, and I wish we had a group like you here state side when we needed one.

All the best.

As ever the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The fault certainly does not lie solely with the crew. But then again blaming the management is a bit of an oversimplification. The fact is that everyone has had a hand in this mess, probably most significantly the politicians.

I hope that a solution can be found, but given the ill will on all sides it seems increasingly unlikely. In days gone by nobody would have believed that Swissair would be allowed to fail. So there is certainly a precedent. Then again the new Swiss is now doing fine, under the wing of Lufthansa. Maybe that will guide the way for Alitalia mark 2.

Heard just now in the news (so I guess treat with the usual caution) that "30" Alitialia flights have been grounded at Rome. The airline is denying it is about to run out of fuel.

Good post, as i said "hello air italy", or in these minimalistic times "Italy" complete with a few artistic brush strokes of red green and white.

Italy is probably one of the most intresting countries in the world. I would recommend a book. "The Dark Heart of Italy" to try to understand the recent history and politics.

The people of the country are totally divided in everything. Except the National Football Team!

I agree with Italians that the attacks on the crews are miss placed. And normally written by people who understand little of aviation or Italy.

But I would say the matter is political now. Nationalism has always been at the heart of a very underconfident Italy and the dreams that Italian politicians peddle.

Stick to food, fast cars and football. Leave the aviation to the others

"Leave the aviation to the others" ?
F14, not bad, four paragraphs of mixed cliches to prelude a crass conclusion, and one is not even sure who do you really sympathize with.

and superb cities, designer shops, chic fashion, Venezia, Milano, Verona, Turino, Roma, Sorrento, Garda, Iseo, Capri, Sardinia, ski-ing in La thuile, Passo Tonale and the most pleasant people I have ever met.

Great Transport, Trains that seem to run on time, cheap fares,

Italy would be better if if just realised that they cant compete with China or India and have to move up industry a technical notch or two. anyway it wasnt a country till the 1850's or so, and the north only just tolerates the south.

Dope05, are you sure it's all OK with you ? It must be another country you're talking about

If you haven't seen it yet, there is a forum here called Jet Blast where you can freely conduct chats like the ones that you like.

Nice to know you've got appreciation for Italy, now regarding the industry to be brought up "a notch or two" last time I checked Italy makes all kinds of complicated gadgetry (how about some 14% of 787 structure down in the deep south and the Typhoon) and technically speaking it has nothing to learn from China.

extract from Alitalia's company code of ethics statement.

capital. They are the driving force
behind the Company’s success
and image through their energy
and intelligence, and they are also
a guarantee for its future.
We are committed to furthering
and safeguarding the current and
potential professional levels of each
one of us according to our merits,
in a climate of equal opportunities,
so that the abilities and legitimate
ambitions of individuals are considered

corporate objectives.
We are likewise committed to ensuring
the moral and physical integrity
of our human resources, ensuring

that respect individual dignity
and are functional, safe and healthy,
while ensuring that nobody is
exposed to unsuitable conditions or
unnecessary inconvenience.

Do all companies, such as BA and Air France etc. have such a useless and inappropriate piece of gibberish which means absolutely three fifths of the square root of **** all?

Maybe the load factor is too low to fly? Who is booking a AZ flight in this time? You don't know wheather this flight takes off or not. Something for guys who like the risk and want to fly cheap but nothing for the high yield business pax.

hopefully the 787 will "take off" as for the eurofighter- not exactly a mass market, although the Saudis always buy our stuff-- but what does the Saudi airforce actually do ? somewhere to spend those oil dollars- or they could do a New Zealand and bin the airforce- love Italy though

By the way, is this forum not the 'Professional' Pilots Rumour Network?

back to Alitalia,

well its going to go into administration anytime now. Let me guess--erm someone is already waiting in the wings, well briefed to buy the remnants for a song, probably an Italian consortium, thus keeping it out of foreign hands, probably MOL and Beardie are closely monitoring the situation and will put bids in, but will be ruled out for one reason or another. The administrators will do the deal within seconds as if like english law, they cant continue to trade a company that cant pay its debts, then they become personally liable for the said debt. Happens all the time and you can bet all those MD80's will be on E-bay damm quick. Who has got a few 73800's lying around looking for winter work?-- Job done- feel sorry for all the employees but that's life. been there got the t-shirt and the video

how about starting a business, by mortgaging the house and your kids future, from scratch, no customers nicked from a previous employer, just open the doors and go out and get the business. 11 years later, employing 30 on bloody good wages, find out your most trusted staff and directors have been embezelling hundreds of thousands, and you are going bust- try tellling the honest, loyal employees they are out of a job. try telling the police who cant be bothered, try being on your own trying to juggle a barrel of vipers. All your lovely creditors are suddenly you worst enemies, try locking up and walking away. and then pick yourself up, cos no-one else will and trying a different business-- you aint got a clue mate, doesnt matter whether your runnning an airline or selling paper clips, the rules are all the same. Try going to Industrial tribunals cos ex -employyes are trying to take you for a ride, try spending thousands defending yourself, then winning, but the politicied system deems that you aint ever going to get your costs. Try it and then tell me how clever you are

You need to chill or take a holiday. Your last post suggests you're on the edge!
The Mod's will no doubt remove your diatribe and give you the PPRune vacation you deserve.
