I would'nt bank on any more long haul expansion, Hugo.
PIA ( and before them Shaheen) are tapping in to a large market, West Yorkshire's Pakistani community. As BYALPHAINDIA mentioned, they could have done all this years ago so its not before time. I'm not familiar with the geographic origins ( ie which part of Pakistan) of the W Yorks community but another Pakistani destination could be possible, I suppose. Lahore, maybe ?

We still have operational issues with the runway and any other long haul routes will have to wait until the B787 or similar types come along if Boeing manage to sort out the problems and the performance from shorter runways than present types need is accurate. The Shaheen had to depart from runway 14 most of the time to go direct even with a tail wind component, so as there are not too many A310s around any more scope is limited. We could do with the Dsa runway moving up here, with that runway length and the into wind orientation I am sure Florida and the Carribean would be soon on the cards but we have what we have. I hope the new boys find a way to increase the landing / take off distances at Leeds.

Thanks Robo
A lot of people on this side of the Pennines have links with northern Pakistan, too. There are also a fair number with links to Punjab, probably accounting for PIA's link from MAN to Lahore.

I must say I was the MD of LBA I would feel extremely embarrased for allowing the drop off and collection area of the the car park to be in the state that it is.I know there are long drawn out plans afoot but quick makover would have helped a long time ago.
A few days work to remove the pavement obsticle course and set out some parking lanes would have worked wonders and cost peanuts.
You struggle from the aircraft on the shoppers style bus.Old people, women trying to carry bags and babies.Probably in my last 100 arrivals, the escalator in the main building was coming down only and people have to struggle up the steps.
On thursday the terminal was like hell on earth.
To make things worse, now when you exit airrivals, half of the available space has barriers to herd possible Arrow pax to go to the kiosk on the left.
I would like to know with all this emphasis on taxis, just how many pax use the taxis. It also seems foreign visitors must be able to read English.
And, they must pay for the taxis in Sterling only, not even Euros.
The time for excuses has long expired.
International Airport my a**.

I was parked in the short stay over flow car park and it took about 15 mins to get to the exit barrier as there were taxis and cars everywhere, just chaos. Come on Bridgepoint they have said how we are getting a £70 million terminal but blimey I wish they would hurry up with it!!
Rant over, good news atleast it was busy!!
A320 fan,
I agree with your sentiments but, come on...
...this is Leeds Bradford, the airport where nothing happens fast ever, (except the wind), no matter who is running it.
By the time we have a half-decent terminal, fuel farm, taxiway and so on, oil will have run out.

makes you wonder if they still plan to extended the airport or not with them taking there time.
i think they are banking the extra interest from the 70 milion and stringing it out as long as possible.

Re Car Parking:
Work starts on Tuesday this week. AA staff car park is to be cleared and will become the new Yorkshire Exec Club car park according to e-mail circulated late Friday. The front of terminal road system will then be remodelled to an "improved standard".
As for terminal, I believe the original plans which were in place were up to the usual standard of the previous management team (draw your own conclusions!) I hear it was decided to start again and try and actually get it right this time but that has taken longer. I'd be the first to agree the place is a mess but I live in hope that it's better to put up with a mess for a while longer if there is a chance to end up with a terminal to be proud of!
Removes rose tinted specs and awaits incoming.....

I love to whinge about LBA's website, but it's getting worse with every passing week. Not only have they got the work experience kid to 'refresh' the design recently, but they've also now employed his illiterate younger brother to write the press releases.

Hi guys,
I dont want to bring bad news (if it is bad news ) but Bridgepoint are planning on spending £19 million out of their £70 million on the terminal. They recently advertised for architects to take on the "extension, refurbishment and redevelopment in the form of reorganisation of the existing terminal building. My Unlce works for the company which carried out the review of the airport and he said that an estimated figure of £20 million has been set aside for the developmeny.
So what can LBA expect for £19 million? Persoanlly I would like to see a larger idea of Robin Hood Airport's terminal. Leeds is a thriving city and lets hope that for once the infrastructre of LBA does get some money well spent on it!

The terminal at DSA is very efficient in design. If LBA could have all departures top floor with gate bridges (a couple more airbridges too) This would significantly enhance the pax experience.
