I was in LBA tonight waiting on the return FR flight to DUB, late as usual. I wouldnt like to see LBA with several flights going out at the same time. 180 odd pax for the flight in Hall B, but then you have the associated families and there isnt much room for anything else.

Dont know what the load in business was like, but I was in the servisair lounge and only 2 PIA pax used it. True enough, the flight was delayed due to the weather radar not working but with more gorund crew there for the first flight, it pushed back at 2215, 15 mins behind. Apart from that it was fairly uneventful.

Nice photo of the A310 on the airport's website (news section). Sorry - no good at doing links.

...but Harrogate is!

PIA has to look at the diversion of traffic from its MAN flights. If the pax were almost all from West Yorkshire then an increase would make sense; otherwise there has to be a sensible balance.

Shaheen coming back this Winter Not that I've heard, and I'm not sure that they would be granted rights by the Pakistan authorities to compete with PIA (but that's just a guess of course)

Canada

Just been reading an article on LBA in airliner world this month (they have a special feature on LBA). In the article "outlook" section it makes reference to a seasonal Toronto service from Summer 09 - just wondered if anyone has heard any rumour of this??

CPH

Does anyone know how the bmi CPH route is going? Tried to book a few dates last week through diamond club using my miles and was told my prefered dates were full. Is it really doing that well?
As for a Canadian route my money, for obvious reasons would be Zoom.

SAS fox

Dont exactly know about BMI.
Sometimes award mile seat allocation is limited.
Did you try to check by booking normally?

What a nightmare!

Flew in to LBA last night, from Dusseldorf. We were given a letter at checkin stating that we would have to stop at Hamburg Lubeck to pick up passengers from there.

A 757 had been substituted for the 737,once we got onboard there were passengers going to Lubeck, they had been routed via Dusseldorf!.Anybody know if this was a one off or a regular occurance?.I think there were 57 passengers got off at Lubeck, and around 80 got on,and I heard a hostie say there was around 40 spare seats.

I know these things happen, and fairplay to Jet2,they could have just cancelled one or both of these flights but seemed to be doing their best to resolve the situation..

However the title of my post refers to our arrival at LBA.I think there were 4 or 5 flights arrived around same time, what a complete and utter shambles.Queue for Immigration huge, only 2 officers on duty, after a lengthy wait, got to baggage hall and luggage hadn't appeared.

Once out,the carpark was overflowing with cars waiting to pick pax up.I really hope that the new owners start to splash the cash soon,as frankly it was an embarrassing spectacle last night.

After the airport was sold we seemed to have 2 years of stagnation waiting for action or even talk about action. After the recent management changes I feel we now have a team of dynamic aviation professionals in charge.

A 757 operated the DUS and LBC as a one off. Jet2 were a 737 short, so rather than send a 757 with 80 pax to LBC, the two flights were combined.

Don't they only fly 767-300's?

I am talking about the recent management changes over the last few weeks and months.I have been one of LBA's biggest critics and I believed that SGH was the wrong guy at the top.We now have people with good aviation track records who will start things moving.

So tell me Kimbob who you are talking about?

I Wasn't refering to anyone in particular, merely commenting that whilst I agree with your sentiment, dynamic seemed rather complimentary considering little has changed other than staffing and management. I realise these things take time, so lets hope dynamic can be used some time in the future, just dont hold your breath for now.

People still seem to be struggling to grasp the difference between ownership and management at LBA. Bridgepoint are the owners, not the management and Parkin, Hallwood et al are the management, not the owners. The owners are private equity investment specialists, not aviation specialists. The reverse is true of the management. So, Bridgepoint buy the airport as an investment, make a number of high-profile appointments from the world of UK regional airport management and set them the task of turning the airport from a business worth £150m into one worth considerably more than that. Parkin came on board in September last year and it then took until April to clear the decks and get his own people in the key marketing, finance and commercial roles. Being mindful of the present economic conditions, I'd start the clock ticking in terms of LBAs development from the time the new-management team was put in situ and judge the results from that point onwards. Again, considering the pressure the industry and the wider economny is under, I'd say the early signs are quite encouraging.
