Airline, aircraft, route?

Italy and Germany are both a bit scarce on NCL route network!

Teenage Ramblings ...

Only a wild guess here but Germany - Could be perhaps more from TUIFly or Air Berlin ? And Italy - Alitalia or neos? perhaps.

And I wonder is Easy is going to start Luton, I did count up the schedules too and the weekends were adding up to six. I hope they don't leave NCL behind as I think they could do great things from here, especially to Poland.

And what about Jet2? Are they planning anything at the moment or are things stagnant for the moment? I think there could be a perhaps new route towards October maybe? Maybe 1 or 2 routes? ( What does everyone else think - Correct me if you think i'm wrong )

And what about the charater front, Are things still looking good for next summer? I heard that Punta Cana may have been cancelled, but looking on TOM's website it was still in the timetable but it wasn't bookable. And also I hear that Cancun is via MAN? If anyone has any details on that. And also on the TOM front, for summer 2008 do you think it could be 4 based aircraft - 1x 737 2x 757 and 1x 767 ? Or could it be just the 3 as 2x 757 and a 767? Or is the 767 not based and just being used for the flights?

And I wonder ( and only wonder here so again correct me if you think i'm wrong ) :- If EK flights are full and successful could we eventually see a 777 used on the service as what happened at BHX?

So, all in all, how is NCL doing? And what do people think about the future? I hope that all goes well and that Easy don't leave NCL behind.

I tried booking several dates today for DXB and no availability, I assume ticket sales must be going very well.

Its my gues that if easy has poor loads out of NCL. It will be as much to do with all of the flights they were cancelling from there this time last year. they made the news daily and no doubt, spoiled a lot of holidays.
Northern folk have long memories!

Yes NCL can handle 777 movements. To accommodate a 777 on Pier the aircraft would have to park on stand 30. Which is basically another centre line running down stand 9 but just a bit further to the south of the present stand 9 centre line. Stand 9 is equipped with 2 APIS's, 1 for stand 9 and the other for stand 30. So yes the airbridge can fit on to a 777, and a 747 which was demonstrated just a few weeks ago!!

It is certainly a shame that EZY are reducing movements and routes for the winter but like someone else said there are still some gaps in the schedules so we might see some later announcements (or not as the case maybe).

LS seems to be doing OK on their routes out of NCL although I'm sure they're disappointed with LGW. BA had an awful lot of connecting traffic on that flight which LS don't have so there has been a significant drop in passenger numbers. I'd like to see a few new routes from LS, particularly if EZY are starting to stagnate.

BE promised the earth and nothing has so far come of it but they probably have the right size aircraft to serve some destinations all week, as opposed to EZY/LS/FR etc.

I still think there is potential for new routes from NCL from traditional and loco airlines, even in Europe.....MAD, FRA, SXF, VCE, WAW, NQY to name but a few.

However, we may be seeing a period of consolidation from them all at NCL. Like someone else said, supply has outstripped demand on some routes and we'll simply have to wait for demand to catch up!

Never fully understood what Jet2 sees the LGW route. As you say, they've got none of the connecting pax that BA had, so they need to appeal to London-bound passengers, or long-haul pax who dare to book a 'connecting' flight.

EZY are more frequent and consistently cheaper than LS (in my experience), and they have a much bigger profile.

FRA is a big gap. Not sure why LH only offer DUS - if they switch it to FRA, they could offer much better connections.

What about Sky Europe, Wizzair? Might we see something from them.

Glad that the Emirates route is doing well. I saw an advert for it during Channel 4 News the other day - first advertising I've ever seen for it outside NCL airport.

According to reports in the industry, the EK DXB service has outstripped demand before it has even started. The first few flights atleast are apparantly completed sold out, and the revenue from the cargo capacity is a money spinner for EK. Passengers are taking full advantage at the amount of connections available from the DXB hub, in addition to geordies having somewhere different to bake in the sun. There is a possibility of seeing the odd 777, however I would think a 2nd daily service on a 2 class A330 would happen first, with maybe a morning and evening departure.

NCL Charter Market

Next summer, NCL will see consolidation in the charter market, it seems that with the increasing number of build your own holiday options that the package guys are decreasing capacity. TOM have planned for 2 757, 1 737 for their sched loco routes, with the 767 passing through sat-mon doing the CUN, PUJ and SFB rotations. It is still unclear what will be based by the TCX group, wether the former MYT 320 aircraft will stay, making a total of 3 based aircraft is not yet confirmed.

The XL group have cut the number of routes and aircraft dramatically. Only 1 737-800, together with a sub aircraft from Air Malta will be based, offering a smaller range of flights. This is possibly due to them loosing some MYT work, together with their Flight Only sales being less than satisfactory (the reason their winter programme was cut).

Scheduled Network/Low Cost

Lufthansa have always said that if the load factors were pleasing then a 2nd daily DUS would be added. It seems to be working well, so maybe they will think of FRA, however the possibility of gaining suitable slots at FRA could be a stumbling block, though a huge business centre like FRA would be a good route from NCL, as really we only have BRU, AMS, CDG and LON.

EasyJet, I don't honestly believe will allow NCL to just stagnate. They maybe are just consolidating their market for the quieter winter months, as they do now face competiton from Jet2, in a small-ish market like the NE. I would be surprised to see LTN appear, but then again loco's do tend to surprise! Routes like VCE, NAP, DBV, SZG and some of the Polish cities could work on a 3/4 weekly basis?

Jet2 seem to be comitted to NCL, though they have experienced problems with their aircraft, which seem to have been resolved now. I am convinced we will see further routes from them in the next 12 months, just look at what they have started in the past 12/18 months. My one fear is that they will expand too quickly and their problems could re-appear, which is never nice to see.

I would love to see BE establish a healthy operation from NCL. With aircraft like a Dash, with small capacity then there are numerous destinations viable, which maybe unprofitable for other locos with larger aircraft to operate. This could well be a long way off, if it ever happens as the airline are still working through a massive merger, together with a major crew shortage.

Wizz - don't think we'll ever see them at NCL as they seem to have developed a healthy relationship with anothe rmajor airport grouping.

SkyEurope - possible?

Germany/Italy - Air Berlin is another strong possibility, as is TUIFly, but did they not cancel 2 routes they used to fly from NCL, due to low demand?

If an italian airline were thinking of NCL, I would say it would have tobe a loco, Air One, MyAir, Air Italy? Highly unlikely to be AZ or Neos.

The future could look good, though my rant over Airport facilities will continue. This issue IMHO does need to improve.
  • International Arrivals door still tech, security have to swipe and open side access door for every flight - sometimes they are late and pax get trapped.
  • Slightly improved immigration area - atlast.
  • Escalator at arrivals never, ever operational.
  • Security still way under staffed, as is coaches and wheelchair service.

Still, gradually things seem to be improving and rumour has it that the checkin conveyor belt system will be replaced over the winter, reducing the huge queues during the early morning rush.

Some of the FJE flights towards the end of the seaon seem to be going to be operated by XL. Fri TFS/HER, Tues TFS, Wed PFO. Only leaves SSH, ACE and KGS as FJE flights.

Are FJE ceasing NCL ops earlier than planned? A great shame, there are some really positive comments on FJE thread.

Emirates - Newcastle - New York JFK

Hi everyone, Iv been following PPRuNe for a while but never bothered to create an account! Was just having a play around on the Emirates site earlier, and noticed that they offer a Hamburg-JFK service. Wouldnt Emirates be tempted to finally please the geordies with a Newcastle - JFK route aswell as the Dubai service, or would this not be possible. Kind Regards. Joe.

The trouble with that is no onward connection, a loco operation would probably shift more bums.

New York - HH6702 agree with everything you say about Jet2 to EWR think twice weekly would work perfectly well and by all accounts its more likely to be when than if. The AA pull out of the route was to high profile and almost certainly scarred off the likes of DL and CO. I am quite dissapointed by some of the negative comments from folks on the NCL thread to the Jet2 to EWR rumours. This is completely the opposite to what the folks in Cardiff were saying a couple of weeks ago when the press down in south wales picked up on the fact that Zoom UK were looking at doing Cardiff to New York. None of the snobery from folks down their about the fact that Zoom been a LOCO op and they would prefer a legacy carrier such as CO, CL or AA. Folks up here need to wake up to reality and realise that the best chance that NCL now has of getting a link to the big apple is from a loco airline.

EasyJet - Very dissapointing if the release we have had so far is all we are going to get in relation to their ops at NCL, to drop from 8 to 5 based aircraft is certainly bad news. This is not consolodation of services but a simple reduction. The fact that some posters are blaming the competition from Jet2 makes no sense as the routes EZY have dropped frequencies on or indeed have gone altogether are routes that JET2 and EZY don't compete on. As far as I can see for this winter they will only be competing on two routes these been Krakow and Malaga, neither of these has had capacity reduced this winter as opposed to last winter, indeed capacity has increased.

FLYBE - was speaking to FLYBE folks in Exeter a 5 weeks ago and the planned NCL base is on hold now for at least two years.

Just to cover some points;
• Easy are dropping from 7 to 5 a/c this winter, expect more to be based for the summer months.
• Thomson Punta Cana is on sale and has never been off sale with Thomson if you go to the holiday’s web site you will be able to book no problem!
