Out of Business

It depends on what you mean by out of business.

Some European and USA have been bust numerous times but stay in business whilst others that are subject to real market forces ( no Govt bail outs or Chapter11 )have a blip and they are gone.

Not really a level playing field, must be lots of small print on the odds.

Somewhat surprisingly, Luton will have a connection to Bourgas throughout the winter. Normally the Wizz route finishes mid-september, but this year, will continue with a reduced weekly sunday flight. All other routes seem to be holding up well, with either daily, or double daily services, except Zagreb, which reduces to 3/4 weekly, depending on the month.

easyJet axe Aberdeen – Luton flights

easyJet has confirmed it has cancelled some flights between Aberdeen Airport and Luton this winter. The budget airline has suspended early morning flights from November because of low demand for the flights throughout winter.

The airline will axe its 08:55 flight from Aberdeen to Luton and 07:00 flight from Luton to Aberdeen, from November 4. Although it hopes to reinstate the current weekday morning schedule for the summer season in 2009, some customers have said the suspension is a blow for business travellers.

Taken from LTN's airport website today.....

Busiest Ever Month At London Luton Airport
Published: 16 September 2008

Record passenger performance saw London Luton Airport handle 1,095,956 passengers during August, the busiest month in the Airport’s history. This represented an increase of 2.6% on the previous year equating to over 27,000 additional passengers.

Bucking the trend for the major London Airports, these positive growth figures are expected to continue with nine new services still to launch in 2008, including further inroads into France, Italy, Poland, Romania and Lithuania from Ryanair and Wizz Air alongside new services to the Benelux region with London Luton's newest airline transavia.com who have today announced a new twice daily Rotterdam jet service commencing 27 October 2008.

Are the new Ryanair flights at the expense of other routes?

If this is the case, then there will be no change in the number of seats available by RYR.

No new based aircraft and are not some of the routes longer so less rotations a day? (unless operated by non based LTN aircraft?)

Ryanair W08/09

Although there are additional destinations being flown by RYR out of Luton this winter it is as a result of:

1) All Shannon flights will operate with a Shannon based aircraft

2) Many existing flights will see a reduction in frequency - e.g. Malta goes
from daily to (I think) 3 x week

3) The Brest service stops for the winter as usual.

There is no change to the number of based aircraft which remains at 4.

Noop not heard anything, and think it will be very wishful thinking on your part that EK might be coming to LTN!

Where have you heard this?

Would love this to be true!

A330-200 two-class daily.

From Airliners(dot)net which is on the EK GRU expansion thread.

There are quite a few reasons to launch DXB-LTN.

Think it's on the cards for EK. They need more capacity out of London and LHR & LGW are over subscribed. UK huge market for EK and now Silver has passed away they've seen how well the route did.Lots of J traffic out of London to here.

Interesting rumour though !
Would suspect that LTN would have to provide more facilities -Airbridge etc to entice them.
Could EK have heard about the old Silverjet terminal and decided to give it a try .
Anybody know what the loads were like to DXB and would there be restrictions using a A330 on the route.
Think its unlikely to happen but if the airport pulled it off--what a coup

The loads to DXB were always poor.

Ideal route to feed into the Asia market via Dubai.

Bratislava-based SkyEurope Airlines has secured a €10m loan from its 29.9% owner York Global Finance ‘to help support its ongoing working capital and cash flow requirements for the winter flying season’.
